Bad Festool Dealers?

I hear you guys talk about your Festool dealers and how much help they are.  Well the two I have here are borderline stupid.  I go in to look at the Festool stuff and they act like I'm retarded for paying that much for a tool.  They will steer me to a cheaper PC a lot too.  Or they have to look at the catalog if I have a question.  Hell man, I could have read the catalog.

BTW I bought some sand paper from Bob and um, he talks too fast.  I asked the same question 4 times and couldn't understand his answer either time.  Bob if you read this take no offense.  We just talk and sort things out a little slower out here in my small town.  I gave up trying to get exactly what I needed and bought a selection I thought would work.  It turned out okay.

Hi Kenny

I've had nothing but good luck with Festool Dealers. I've dealt with Timmy C at Festool Junkie and Bob Marino.

I suggest you call Festool USA regarding your local dealers issues. They need to know about it.

You might be best to just keep on trying different dealers till you find one that "speaks your language".

Sorry about your experience.  You actually don't even need a dealer (It is nice to have one) if you have such a wealth of information on sites such as this one.  You can make your actual purchases directly from the Festoolusa.com website.

KennyR,

You wouldn't happen to be in Canada would you? The word from others (Canadians) on this forum is that the dealer(s) there are not very responsive.

Bob's great at responding to email too.  That should solve the speed issue :-)

I was shopping in a rather large hardware store last summer and bumped into a display of Festool products.  I said, "Oh, I see you carry Festool" and received a similar responce as you -- something like, "Yea, they are overrated -- take their jigsaw, you can get a Bosch for $100 less and it is just as good."  Seemed an odd way to do business.  Needless to say, I will not ever be buying any Festool products there -- no ifs, ands or butts about it.

On the other hand, I have used two ISAs for my Festool purchases.  Both are all the way across the country from where I live -- and yet each has provided very good service.  To me, this is one of the nice aspects of Festool USA's marketing/pricing structure.

I taught classes in Charleston, South Carolina (location, not the subject:D).  Geared the speed way down.  It's easier to do when you get feedback from your listeners' faces.  Funny thing--the classes ran right on schedule, even with all of us talking slow.

Some of my students told me they frequently had trouble with Yankees' speed--except the time they worked with a fellow from Maine.  Said they wouldn't have minded if he'd picked up the pace a little.  :D :D :D

Kenny - Where are you located??

No question, some dealers are a whole lot better than others.  I have heard complaints similar to yours about some of the Woodcraft stores.  My own experience is with two ISA's and Festool-USA.  I have purchased from Bob Marino and Tim Bonham, a local ISA in Phoenix, as well as online from Festool-USA.  All experiences good, especially Bob M.  Bob is in New Jersey and I'm in Arizona - still works well since most everything gets shipped in a few days.  He does talk a bit strange though - then again I'm originally from Philadelphia so I understand him. ;D ;D ;D

I've only dealt with one Festool dealer (Bob Marino) and he's been just great. He has always exceeded my expectations. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

In general here in Australia I have had average service from a variety of dealers and that includes 3 dealers in Perth, and one in Melbourne so I purchase online from Anthony now at Ideal tools as it is usually fairly easy, mainly for my smaller consumables, sanding, chucks and drivers etc. I need to decide who gets my business when I buy the CMS as I prefer to give it to someone local to a) support local dealers and b) easier when you have a problem perhaps.

Hey Ken,

Sorry bout that, It's not only North Eastern, but Brooklynese to boot. Add a cell phone into the mix and it can be rough on Southern ears. :-[

Bob,

I agree that you talk fast, but you're always willing to say it again until a "slowbee" like me gets it.  Thanks for all your help and patience.  I need to get the metal swivel adapter for the Boom Arm I purchased from you; my plastic one is starting to warp causing the end of the boom to droop.

I have purchased many, many items from Uncle Bob and dealt with Timmy C and could not be more satisfied. Although I find that Bob speaks a little to slowly for me Istill am able to finally convey to him what I need.  ::) ;D :D ;) Fred

I've bought everything (I mean EVERYTHING) from Bob, and I don't notice him talking fast as much as my thinking
