The list of banned/restricted members is complete.  It's simple: if someone is not on the list, that person is not banned or restricted.

If people have questions about whether they are banned or restricted, they can write to me offline, or they can post here.  If they post here, I'll look into it to make sure there is no mistake and post here about the facts.

Matthew, I never said that I was banned on that other post, I said that I was denied access.

Bob also wrote this on the other forum: "...like many others I have been denied access."

There is no designation known as "denied access," so I don't know what Bob is referring to.  In any case, Bob Swenson is not banned or restricted.  Bob Swenson has never been banned or restricted.  He and I communicated offline about this, and I made it clear to him that he is not, and never has been, banned or restricted.

Certain people continue to post on the other forum about being banned or restricted.  Again, if they are not on the list, they are not banned or restricted.  Draw your own conclusions about why they would knowingly post inaccurate information on another forum.

I think it would be an improvement to the FOG to create a section that is NOT a thread, but rather a collection of things like an introduction to the forum, posting guidelines and the "banned/restricted" list.  This section would have no discussion threads, just documents written by the Administrator that members and prospective members can easily assess.  For example, if a new person comes to the FOG, that person could be directed to the new section to review the rules and guidelines for posting, objectives of the forum and similar information.  I know that some of this information is currently contained in various threads.  I think those items of information that are of general interest, and that pertain to forum administration should be in one place where a person does not need to read a thread to get the latest information with changes included as those changes are made to the documents.

Matthew, it was brought to my attention this morning that I am being listed as a Restricted member of the FOG.

If you will recall, I deleted my account back on June 17, 2008. You wrote to me privately and asked for my reasons, and I clearly explained them to you. You said you would complete the deletion.

I bear this forum no malice, I think it is a great resource, and frequented by many good and interesting people. I hope that it continues to flourish. I have never written a negative comment about the FOG either publicly or privately, nor have I ever suggested to anyone that they quit this forum in favor of another. It's just not my way to engage in such behavior.

I simply decided that I no longer wanted to be a part of the FOG (for the reasons I explained to you), and in fact was under the impression that my account had been completely deleted back in June. I haven't tried to log on, or even visit since that time. I was extremely surprised to find that I could still log on this morning.

I would greatly appreciate it if you complete the deletion my account immediately.

There is really no need or purpose for your rudeness and beligerance.

Anyone can register here, and participate as long as they follow the rules. And if they decide they want to "un-register" they should be able to that too, and in a timely manner.

I registered here in February, participated regularly and always obeyed the rules.

In June I decided I wanted to delete my account, and when I found that only Matthew can do that I communicated with him privately about it. He promised to take care of it.

I did not make some grand announcement or post a tearful goodbye. I just left quietly.

Now I find that not only is my name is still listed on the member roster, but instead of a "2008 FOG Supporter" I am now listed as a restricted member (don't know or care why). I would just like to have my name removed completely.

Is any of this too difficult for you to understand?

Sorry, joraft, you're quite right about the attitude and I apologise.

The fact that this was "brought to your attention" suggests that the mischief-makers are still at work.

Something to keep in mind is that, even if you delete your own account, it remains in the system and can be activated later if you wish. I was surprised by this behaviour when I deleted my account at one time, then found I was able to re-activate it myself at a later date.

I think you're right about the mischief, Ron, although I don't think it's being carried out by a friend who merely wanted me to know that my name has suddenly appeared here on a list of "bad boys".

But, I do have to wonder why a member who never caused any trouble here, and left quietly and peacefully months ago, not only has their named not removed as requested, but has it placed out there publicly with the status changed to restricted.

I think I do have the right to have my name removed completely if I request that. There is absolutely no chance I will ever return here, and I have made that clear to Matthew.

Even at this point I have no wish to deal with this publicy, or cause any disruption to the forum. However, as a restricted member, I cannot use the PM system and have no other way to communicate with Matthew.

If my name is completely removed from the roster I will be gone immediately and out of your hair permanently (no shooing required).

Guys, had my name been deleted months ago as I requested, there would be no issue today. That would have been better for me, and certainly better for the FOG.

Why would an administrator keep a defunct member's name on the roster for so long, later ban that name, and then change it to restricted? I can only conclude that it's for much the same reason that a cat will continue play with a mouse long after it has already died. It doesn't want to give up the game.

I have no illusions about my own importance here (or anywhere), I just don't like having my name being publicly played with in that way. And unfortunately, I am apparently powerless to do anything about it.

You suggest that you would not be bothered if this were to happen to you. Obviously we feel differently about this, and I can accept that. But I should still be entitled to have my request honored.

You TF people are really amusing.

As I suspected, and as the recent posts prove, the TF people are simply interested in stirring the pot.  If I don't ban them, they make up stories about being banned.  If I publicly announce that their stories of banning are fictitious, they post about how surprised they are to learn that they were not banned.  If I actually do ban them, they make a big stink about how unfair that is.  If I lift the ban, they want to know why I'm actually allowing them to use the forum.

When Mike Chrest suggested that I lift the ban on the TF moderators, I predicted this is what would happen.  After all, without the bans, they lost their whole argument about the big, bad, bogeyman FOG censoring them and clamping down on their rights.  What choice do they have, except to find some new complaint?  Hey, how dare I allow them to use the FOG!  How dare I not delete their accounts!

Friends have long suggested that I ignore the TF people and they will go away.  It should be apparent to everyone now that whether I ignore them or respond to their antics, they are determined to find a way to interpret every situation in such a way to create new trouble.

But here's the difference: for quite some time, TF people did this and got a lot of others to believe their nonsense.  They convinced a lot of innocent people that their protest site was "just another forum."  By taking them on, we have exposed their nonsense and made their intentions and coordinated lies crystal clear.  I'm confident that members of this forum now see exactly what the TF moderators are all about.  I think it's also now clear that we have a couple of FOG members who are not TF moderators, but who are still playing that game where they "sort of" antagonize under the guise of innocent questions, always finding a way to mention the protest site.

I'm confident everyone here knows the score at this point.

              Sorry but again you totally Ignored mine and others questions to carry on with your own agenda..... my question was "will you delete my account" YES OR NO would have sufficed.  So whats your answer Matthew ? or are you trying to draw an argument out of us? as John said just delete the accounts and we will be gone....I'm sure that's what most of your members would like as well as myself, so stop trying to be dramatic about the whole situation and just do it .....and put us all out of our misery please !

I have a question about account deletions. If you delete a users account does that remove all the forum content associated with the account?
If that is the case then there should be a way of disabling the accounts instead of deleting them. I noticed that all of Rick Christophersons messages are missing when I went back to review one of the discussions on the Kapex, what would have happened to those messages?

If it wasn't for all the games that got started...and then the complaints that he is not doing enough to moderate....then he's doing too much...on and on and on...perhaps he could get back to what he used to do and that was constantly seeking new ways to make our site a better place...WHICH HE HAS DONE A MARVELOUS JOB AT!

As I mentioned earlier...I am glad that the other site came to be...a few birds flocked together and created a protest site to hurt our feelings....NOONE CARES!  There are tons of talent and good people HERE.  We like being HERE.  

You've got your protest site....go roost over there and continue inflating each other..I have never seen so many wonderful people...eventually the 'fly bys' to come crap  over here will cease.
