Basic info on the domino (500)

OK, I took the leap and bought the 500 version domino. But, I had no sales support so after I read the instructions I realized I have one bit but several domino sizes. Will the standard bit cut differing thicknesses? If not, do I match the bit diameter to the domino thickness?
Or put another way, do I really need every size bit and every size domino?

Yes, you need the bit size to match the domino you want to use.    The domino will cut a wider mortise for the same size tenon you want to use for aid in alignment. 

So a 5mm cutter will not work for a 6mm domino tenon.      And so on….

    Yes, the bit diameter is matched to the domino thickness. Whether or not you need every size really depends on what you are building. Rule of thumb is to use a domino 1/3 the thickness of the material. That can vary by material type and application though. A good way to get the bits at a savings is to get the domino systainer assortment.  Item #  498899

Ya know one thing that is great about festool is their support. You can go into most festool dealers and they have factory trained people there who can help you. Festool will help you over the phone, So there are alot available sources there for you.

The reason Im telling you this ,I learned about the domino is there is a learning curve. Also check out festool TV on U tube and Paul Marcels  half a inch shy blog

Yes, the Halfinchshy videos are great, but lots of practice on scrap will perfect your technique and minimize costly errors.

If you buy the Domino accessory kit, you get all the cutters and a large assortment of tenons. Great value.

Also, you will want to buy the Seneca Domiplate. It makes using the Domino with 1/2" and 3/4" sheet goods much easier.

The Domino tenon assortment and cutters are a great deal and well worth the money.  Now that you have your Domino and I assume you'll want to get to it as soon as possible, a few words of advise "Go slow" when plunging and you'll get better results.

The videos online are a very good resource and well worth the time spent watching them but, if you get stuck on a given technique just ask on the FOG we have a pretty good experience base of users on here.
