Battery Charger Timer

I never leave my batteries on the charger longer than what it needs to.

But here is something interesting. This was about 7-8 years ago.I was working on this new construction house and there were 2 electrician that was working in the same house and one of them asked the other to charge a couple batteries. As the other was putting the batteries into the chargers, the other guy said,"Don't set the charger on the concret floor while it is charging"  I looked at him and asked why not?  He told me that charging batteries on concret does damage the batteries. I did some research on that but nothing to confirm that.
The only thing that i know that is bad for your batteries is HEAT. So keeping your batteries in a dry cool place is the best you can do.

Charging batteries on a concrete floor bad for them. That is one we should send to Mythbusters.

Sounds like pure Myth to me.

To make the batteries last long, is seems the key is to monitor them, and also cycle them. I am just a DIY user, so my batteries sit unused for long periods sometimes. Especially during those lazy months of the year January to December

No, there is absolutely no basis for that. Concrete does not affect a battery.

I had heard about that too when I was in the auto repair business.  I would leave car batteries on the concrete floor or even charge them there.  Some people had commented over the years that I shouldn't do that because the earth is at a ground potential and it would draw the current from the battery.  I always thought that was ridiculous so I never changed my methods.  The only thing you do need to be careful of with auto batteries is gas vapors (sulfuric acid) accumulating near the floor while charging and an ignition source.
