I use Howard Feed-N-Wax Wood Conditioner on my mft.  Easy to apply and I used shotgun cleaning mop to go inside the dog holes.  i think 12 gauge fits

I also use the Howard’s on my tops, I multiply coats until it is no longer absorbed.

I wiped Zinsser Seal Coat on mine. Super easy to apply - forgiving and dries crazy fast.  I've spilled some stuff on mine and it wipes up easy.  Big fan!

I've used two coats of Osmo PolyX on two of my DIY MFT MDF tops (wow acronyms!) with great results. First coat soaks in and it'll feel a bit rough after it dries, but a light sand with 220 grit gets it smooth and ready for a light second coat that can be wiped off nicely with no need to sand (sand if you have any texture).
