hi there. iv been using google .
im very frustrated by it . i type in as much info as i can but still get things coming up that are nowhere near relivent at all.
if i google rotary hammer drill , i get pictures of womens shoes  and all kinds of other crap mixed in with some relivent pics. this also happens  ( but not as bad with the normal search)

iv tryed changing what i type but still cant get what i want.

are there any better search engines  etc out there.

thanks alan

There is no better search engine than Google. It's a simple as that. They are lightyears ahead of the competition.

But I agree it is by no means perfect. But that's because it's incredibly difficult for a general computer program to understand what billions of different users want to find on something as big as the internet. Until search programs get better, Google is the closest thing to "very good" there is.

To get the best results from Google you need to type the most relevant words in and perhaps add a couple of operators to refine the search. The operators are a great help in narrowing the search down. It's a worthwhile investent of time to learn to understand them.

But to be honest, when I did a plain search for rotary hammer drill I only got relevant results. No shoes or anything.

try using operators such as " " and AND, etc. You can try BING - Microsoft - it's not bad but I doubt you will like it bettter. Since search engines are only web based, you can try all you want with on effort.

Seems weird that you are getting women's shoes etc. mixed in with your search.
Have you deleted your cache lately?
I tried the same search term on my computer and get only rotary hammer drills on the return search page.
Even if I try to mess it up by putting something else like "rotary hammer" and "women's underwear" in the term do I get any weird search term returns such as SPANX In Power Super High Waisted Mid Thigh Shaper Panty.

When you're getting women's shoes mixed in your search results when other people don't get it, it might be some adware virus.

Some people mention Bing, well, you can always try it out and see if it works for you, but I've found it is nowhere near as good as Google.

If you are getting women's shows when searching for rotary hammer drill on Google you have  malware on your computer.

Use one or more of these to clean up your system:

Malwarebytes
Spybot Search and Destroy
Microsoft Security Essentials
Ad-Aware by Lavasoft

All of these have free versions.

Be careful what tools you use. Many programs that advertise themselves as anti-malware programs  are actually malware. Some have names very close to the above in order to confuse users.

Also the browser version you use is important. Some early MS Internet Explorer versions are in particular very susceptible to attack. IE 9 or the latest versions of Google Chrome will make your system more robust.

Maybe Google has saved your women's shoe searches and is feeding them back trying to keep up with Zuckerberg???

Second to Google, I use Bing.  Microsoft's previous search implementation was horrible; though my browsers are all configured with my language preferences, I'd get Russian sites up top when searching for Microsoft API information.  Since reimplementing it and rebranding it Bing, it's much better.

I also didn't get any women's shoes and it could be browser malware.  Andvari had a good list of apps.  If you are on Windows, grab Microsoft Security Essentials; it's free, integrates very well, and I like it a lot.  To me, anything from Symmantec is a virus so avoid at all costs.

thanks guys . pc acting up lately  but anti virus says its clean. il try the malware

For those that use translation services ... I've found Microsoft's superior to Google's when it come to Chinese and Japanese conversion to western languages and back. Google tries to infer too much context from grammatical structure and you end up with garbage (leveraging structure is good for translating stories, but terrible for specifications, point forms, etc)

just  a quick update. i installed the 4 above and scaned with each. found a few things , nothing major (i think) . have to fix all my websites now so i can see pics ,and emails etc .
it stoped the womens shoes ( thank god ) but i still get funny results to the searchs . i got pics of food and drink and pics of people.
im getting this pop up screen in the bottom right corner like ebay( but not) showing search results for buying the item.
where do you think i should go from here ( cant aford the i pad yet but getting there) . still need this pc to work for a while yet

Sounds like something is screwy with our computer but try using a different browser like Chrome or Firefox just to see if the problem persists. Both free to download. Mind you I'm no computer tech, just my usual shot in the dark tactics, you've nothing to lose

Another thing you can do is go into the IE Manage Add-ons screen and disable all the add ons except Flash and Silverlight. Or you can try just disabling the 3rd party add-ons.

As per Ghostfix. Install another browser - I highly recommend Chrome - fast and stable. Once you get used to it, you won't go back to IE, although IE9 is a huge improvement over IE8.
