Best Woodworking YouTube Channels...

The adds, in all forms, have gotten out of hand. Not so long ago, they were really only on the biggest channels. Even then, they were quick and skipable. Now they are everywhere and getting longer, plus the in-video ad-reads, from the creators themselves. Initially, for the most part, they were at least related companies/products. Some do still stick to that, while others will push anything that makes a buck. Sure, it works, some make a very good living, but it's short-sighted. It will either sink their channel directly or spell the downfall of the entire platform.
I agree. Whenever I watch YouTube from an account other than my main accout, I find it maddening. Those ad blockers are a relief. I use them on my phone so whenever I'm reading articles, I get the "Continue without supporting us" prompt - and choose Hell Yes.

I wish I could give you a recommendation on ad blockers for YouTube because whatever one I have is excellent. There have been a couple times over the past two years where YouTube was able to defeat them - I then resigned myself to having to live with it. But whichever service I have, it took a couple days and then they were able to defeat the ads again. I'm unable to tell you which I have because I have no idea. I don't even remember installing it, which means it must have been installed nearly ten years ago since it was already there when i started producing YouTube videos in 2019.

I will watch all day long, without a single ad, and be completely impatient when I see one on a different account.

Yeah. The ads are totally out of control. Many news media clips start with ads that run 15 sec. or so, and some news clips are embedded with even multiple ads. I usually avoid all of them.

Since I never watch any long YouTube videos online, I don't have any problem with the ads (I've installed block ad on my Firefox browser for web popups). I download videos and then watch them without any ad interruptions, allowing me to skip or jump forward as too many of them are so long-winded.

Short-form videos tend to be free of ads, but they may carry other forms of potential ramifications, such as this: https://www.nbcnews.com/health/heal...earch-short-form-video-consumption-rcna245739

I can't speak to what the channels like as I've only watched this video so far, but as a whisky enthusiast that wants to get into distilling my own spirits and ageing them in barrels, I found this 30 minute video on the start to finish life of a barrel an absolutely fascinating watch and insanely interesting.

Normally I’m not into his antics. I do respect his skills and knowledge.

With that endorsement, I’ve added it into the Play app’s queue for the Apple TV.

If you want to find out how to do precision joints in round material this is the video to watch.

Oh yeah.

Carmonius Finsnickeri

If you like something different from the same old stuff, this guy is great.
Swedish fellow. He has some great yigs (jigs).
But he knows his stuff and does nice work.
I am watching his Side Table Build, from a year ago, and goes into good detail about selecting and matching grain patters, stickering to avoid warping, etc.

I was watching a Blacktail Studio video today and was horrified by what I saw at one point!

How mega rich do you have to be to throw out such an astounding amount of sanding discs after ONE sanding session?

I reckon I'm lucky if I throw out one disc a year, I'm shaken to the core by what I saw! ;-)

When you're charging tens of thousands per table and making tens of thousands per video, you don't need to worry about pedestrian things like sandpaper!

Yeah, but the waste! I mean it's such a slippery slope, throwing out dozens of useful sanding discs one day, the next you're throwing out perfectly good drills and router bits that could be sharpened just because they broke! ;-)

I go to sleep watching Youtube with earbuds to mask the hurricane force wind noise coming from the two pedestal fans my wife and the dogs love so much. I know it is going to be a bad day and I question my sanity when I wake up in the middle of the night and I hear the sound of Black Tail Studios, especially if he is promoting his classes or the nano coating. For extra credit there are always the times I get trapped in the YouTube purgatory of his channel with numerous episodes all in succession. To each their own.

Like him or hate him, he's an amazing example of a bloke who's done exceedingly well with social media and his business.

I generally really enjoy Cam's style of ultra natural and no fuss video's, and I did subscribe to his epoxy workshop when he had a special on which was well worth it I think, but I am sick of being spammed for the ceramic coating product!

That’s actually upsetting to see. Totally wasteful.

Since epoxy charges the sandpaper, wouldn't wet sanding with soapy water help? Similar to drilling a hole in a metal plate with or without a cutting wax/paste

Clogged sandpaper is instantly working against you. It starts making scratches/swirls, by dragging that imbedded swarf back into the surface. This happens most often with plastics or film finishes.
With hard plastics, like Corian and acrylic sheet, the main problem is from starting at too fine of grit. It makes too much heat, and the swarf gets remelted, into the sandpaper. Backing up a grit or two will often solve this.
Epoxy and film finishes have another contributor, that's pretty simple, they may not be fully cured.
Often, the initial digging in and leveling things out, in the epoxy, results in some goo. The outer edges and crispy bits often are the worst. Starting with some really coarse and coated abrasive seems to do the best for me. You then have to be sure to get those crumbs out of the way, preferably by vacuuming the entire area. Good sanders of course, are a big part of the whole process.
While mesh abrasives are great, for higher grit sanding, I would rather use the regular holey kind, at low grit. The swarf is larger too and seems to be pulled into the sander better.
If you get clogging, called corning by painters, step up a grit or 2 and re-test or allow more curing time. This time of year, maybe some heat?
Cam is a mixed bag, for me. I generally like his content, but it does get repetitive. Things like the custom staircase are a nice break, from the usual. I couldn't watch it every day, but that can be said about a lot of things.

Most of the stuff he does involves epoxy. Terrible to sand and clogs up the paper in seconds. What you perceive as waste is actually calculated usage, b/c a clogged up piece of sandpaper is of no use…
So long as the epoxy is cured if you're using a dust extractor with the sander it doesn't clog. Sanding epoxy simply produces a lot of very fine white dust. On my Mirka mini sanders that have no extraction I need to run the extractor nozzle over the disc frequently, but on my larger sander I don't need to do anything as the dust is sucked into the extractor..

You can permanently block any channel you don't want to watch. In the thumbnail page right click the three dots under the picture either mark it not to be recommended or not liked and if you mark it not liked a further menu becomes available where you can mark it simply not liked or you have watched it previously. Marking it previously watched means it won't be recommended to you again, marking it not liked means it might be recommended but most probably not. As I wrote above the only browser I us is Vivaldi because it does not show any ads and a blocker is unnecessary.
