Boom Arm, Handle for CT-22

Went to the local Woodcraft last week and order the combo boom arm package (Boom arm, handle, tool support), since they did not have one in stock for my CT-22. It came in and I picked it up yesterday. Just got around to opening up the boxes.

The Handle assembly diagram shows two plastic collars to go around the tubes at the top mounting bracket where the power cord storage locations is. When I opened the box there was just the tube, the bottom plastic support, the top plastic support and the nuts/bolts. The two collars were missing. Where these suppose to be included or has the design been change that deleted them?

I think they also piece mealed the three components of the Combo package, since the had a boom arm but not the other two components (i.e. the handle and the tool holder). So two more questions. When you order the combo package does it come in one box or in three boxes. I noticed in the Festool catalog it also says the tool holder is suppose to come with a bolt, which mine did not. The tool holder was just sold loose.

I would have called the local Woodcraft where I bought it, but they are already closed for the day and they won't open until noon tomorrow and my guess is they will need to reorder the handle, if the collars were suppose to be included.

Which means it would be next Friday before it comes in and another 1-1/2 hour drive they and 1-1/2 hour drive back now that the summer tourist traffic has begun.

I'm sure Shane gave you all the info.  You'll need those two metal straps; bottom one is just a hose clamp, but still should have gotten it.

For the tool holder, it goes on the boom arm where the pivot attaches at the top of the straight tube. You put the tool holder on the screw before putting the thumb screw over it.  At least that was how mine worked (I have a CT-22 too but bought the parts all separately).  My toolholder came in a box with nothing else.

I should have posted in the thread. I'm going to make arrangements for the service department to contact him on Tuesday and ship him the missing parts. This should prevent the hassle and the long drive.  [wink]

Again --- the level of great service that the people in this company at the North American headquarters go to in order to keep customers satisfied.  Way to go Shane and Lester.    If you have any problems getting the boom arm etc installed, let me know and I will try to snap some pictures to post for you.    The directions leave an awful lot to be desired.  A few good pictures help

Awhile back, I wrote a review of the Boom Arm here: http://www.talkfestool.com/vb/festool-reviews/75-boom-arm-review.html .  IMO, it's one of the best (but least appreciated) CT options for shop use.  Have fun.

From looking at most of the online pictures, it doesn't appear that the extra leg set are really being used or touching the floor when the boom arm is directed toward the front of the VAC. I don't anticipate using the swing arm behind the VAC ever, just in the front. So have you found they are required to adjusted so the touch the floor, so that anytime you need to move the VAC, you have to adjust the leg set?

I took those outrigger tip guards off long ago.  The parts are handy for different things.  Never had one tip.  Honestly forget the boom arm comes with them since I don't recall ever seeing them "in the wild".  Probably a blue pill for UL listing (uhm, Matrix-type blue pill...)

The extra leg set was on my CT22 for maybe a day or so. Even when they were folded parallel to the body, they kept catching on everything - hoses, table legs, body parts (ouch). I yanked them off and tossed them on a shelf. I haven't used them in years. I've tipped my CT a few times (my fault), but I doubt if the legs would have helped.

Thanks guys, that what I was figuring as well.

Oh a tip, the three nuts that go up into the bottom plastic piece. Flip the bottom bracket upside, drop in the three nuts, and use some of those foam ear plugs to hold the nuts in place. Just squeeze the foam plugs flat and jam them in the slot and when the expand they will hold the nuts firmly in place.

That way you don't have to turn the VAC upside down to get them to stay in place while putting in the screws.
