Boom arm vs overhead support

De ceiling of the basement is 1.87 m (about 6' 2") so there is not much space to do something overhead. I even had to slip the guide rail to the rear a little to stay clear of the ceiling when I swing it up. But I made a crude wooden rail with two rollers to hang the hose and cable. First I tried rails for sliding doors but or they were to big or they had not enough hardware to connect something or they were too expensive. My construction works but it will not win in a beauty contest.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys,  It looks like there is a wealth of great info here!  to address some of the comments... that was not intended to be a "stealth gloat"  It was a pic i took a few years ago when i bought the slider and it happened to have the boom arm in the back ground.  and the shop is a tad bit bigger than the pic lets on  [wink]

We will need to see more pics of that shop to verify [tongue]

Very nicely built boom setups guys.

Because my shop is small and the vac never travels outside of the shop I always leave the Festool boom attached & I have never used the outriggers which I'm guessing were a requirement by Festool attorneys (they have to make a living too).  [smile]
