Boring for 26mm cup Blum hinges

I want to make some cabinet doors with narrow rails and stiles for glass front doors.

The 35mm cup is too large.

The 26mm cup is better, but still not ideal.  But going with that, I need a way to bore for the 26mm cup.  I currently have a Blum drilling jig.  Can I just swap out forstner bits?

I also have a Kreg jig that I never use.

And I have a small drill press.  I am thinking about making a custom fence for the drill press for this.  Has anyone ever done this?

Are there soft close hinges that are surface mounted on the stiles?

The cup hinge requires extra clearance for the rabbet for the glass fitting.  A surface mount would simplify that.

For the 35mm hinges, I used to just clamp a piece of wood the prescribed distance from the edge and mark center lines.  At some point I got a woodpeckers table/fence for my drill press, so that lets me use the stops to avoid the center line marks.  I am sure the same thing would work for the 26mm cup hinges.

Using an empty tape roll around the cup hole makes cleanup much easier since the chips don't go flying.

I mostly use the Blum jig which traps the chips until it is lifted.

The easiest thing for me would be to replace the 35mm bit with a 26mm bit.  But I don’t know if that would work.

I think I will assemble a custom fence for my drill press.

What would be the minimum wall thickness between the outer edge of the bored 26mm cup and the edge of the stock?

Sounds like an excuse to purchase an LR32sys and metric boring bits from Festool, and a router if you don't have one yet.

You may want to check Salice and Grass to see what they offer for your application.

I'm going to answer your last question first-no. I have researched edge mortice hinges for a while. When I have to do an edge mount I use the Sugastune HES3D-70DN. I cut the mortices with the Shaper Origin. I do not have the Shape Plate (yet). I mount the doors to one of the MFT's via the side profile. The plywood with the tape on it has been used on hunders of projects.

On to the 26mm hinges;

This is the bit I use for 26mm hinges. It goes into the CMT head I have mounted in the drill press. The 2 mounting hole bits need to be removed due to the smaller mounting pattern of the 26mm hinge.

For drilling the mounting screw holes I fabricated a jig using the Shaper Origin. The flat goes against the door edge to keep the holes parallel to the door edge. The holes are drilled for a Vix bit, this keeps from wearing the holes in the jig and centers the mounting hole.

The Blum 26mm hinge comes in the same configurations as the 35mm Clip Top hinge, (bottom to top) straight arm, half crank and full crank.

The 26mm hinge is not available with Blumotion. I use this soft close add on. This add on device will be highly visible through the glass, you may want to forgo the soft close on this project. Thinking about it, this device plunger may land on the glass.

I looked, a Compact face frame mount 26mm hinge is not shown in the current mater catalog.

I thought I replied to this yesterday? now I'm confused.
I would have said that Grass makes a very similar clip-on unit for their hinges.  [embarassed]
