I have a VS 600 with the dovetail and doweling templates. Both work well. Does anyone have and use the box joint templates? I think there are two--one for 6mm and one for 10mm joints. If you have one or both of these, are you satisfied with the results? Evidently, the VS 600 is discontinued (rats!), but there are still some of these templates around, so I might try to snag one before they disappear. Thanks, folks.

To my knowledge its only the "let us have it cheap or not at all US market" that the VS600 has been discontinued ... everything is still available here in Oz and also the rest of the planet.

That's what my sources tell me anyway.

Hi I believe that although the jig is no longer available it will benefit from continued support from festool USA so you should be able to buy the parts you need.

I do have them. Results are very good. Much better and faster than Porter cable. Festool USA will supply templates and router bits at least for 7 years.
The reason why we don't have it anymore here is that people refuse metric. :(

I have both sets. I recently used the 6mm set on material less than 1/8" thick by placing a shim behind the two boards in the VS 600. The edge I was joining was 10.5" long, and the VS 600 did a very nice job of it. For this project, I made 8 of these 10.5" long joints.

I did a prototype first, and hand cut the dovetails in the sub 1/8" thick boards for two edges on the prototype. That took me quite a while, and involved a lot of anxiety on my part. Until I can cut those dovetails effortlessly, I will stick to the box joints.
