Brand New Guide Rail Bowed?

Ok, just got my TS55 w/ the the 55" guide rail. I placed
a straight edge along side and see this gap just under 1/16"
towards cut end. Anyone else have a curve in the rail?
Bummed out now & I don't want to make no humpie projects.  [tongue]

I received a 55" rail that was out 3 mm  in the last 24", Bob had me call Festool service...had a new rail 3 days later.  I offered to send pictures but they said it was not necessary.

I have some experience with extrusions from my Performax/Supermax days.

If you guys ever saw how these are made, you'd wonder how they didn't ALL come out looking like twizzlers. Getting them straight is an art. We could go months with near perfect results and then we'd get a batch of extrusions where we would have to reject 70-80%.

I visited the facility hoping to figure out what was going on. They used the same die, the same machine, the same operator, etc...yet the results were as different as could be. We examined their process and considered nearly 50 variables, but never did figure out what even MIGHT have changed.

My point is that getting good extrusions comes down to getting a good production run, AND doing good inspection. You have to do BOTH or you'll have issues like [member=31307]Picktool[/member] experienced.

In my opinion, if this is the only one, it probably just slipped by. But if we see a whole bunch of 'me too' posts following his, then it may be time for Festool to check their QC process?

I have often wondered how they managed that, I guess it is a 'black art' like tuning a boats propeller to maximise thrust and reduce cavitation. [eek]
If memory serves me well there have been very few problems either posted here or elsewhere regarding this issue but with all issues Festool do try to sort it as fast as possible. While it is a bit of a pain/disappointment to have an issue I am sure it will get resolved efficiently.
The promised pics would be useful though, as a guide for what to look for.

Who knows maybe there was a batch out there that might have this.

I can see it now those trying to get out of doing something because
they have to check their rails. Anyways, i'll find out tomoro as to how this
will be taken care of.

too fuzzy. If it helps, picture a 180 grit sanding disc drop within 15" spread.

Kind of curious as to how they ship the 197" rail. [tongue]
