Hello, everyone! Brand new to the forum and brand new to Festool (and pretty much brand new to woodworking).

I recently purchased a new TS 55 FEQ and the kit included the FS-1400/2 55" Guide Rail (not the newer model with the slots in the middle).

I have followed the directions to trim my splinter guard but mine is not flush with the guide rail after doing so. Is it supposed to be flush with the aluminum or is it offset just a little bit (see attached photo)?

[member=78840]jarod[/member] that's the way it is supposed to be. The splinter guard extends out a bit from the actual rail. The edge of the splinter guard is now on the cut line of the saw.

Thank you!

People kept saying (in videos) that it is "now flush" but never showed what a trimmed splinter guard looks like.

I appreciate the confirmation!

Welcome to the forum!

Plenty of people use bad terminology. Anti-splinter strip flush to the guide rail .... no. But if they meant flush to the blade ...... a sort of yes.

After cutting the strip it is zero clearance to the blade.  I wouldn't necessarily call that flush, more like butted against. I would say that the strip should end up flush to the cut in the material that was just made.

Please don't get me started on level, flat, and straight  ::)

On the other hand I am pretty sure I am guilty of using a wrong term sometimes.

  Anyway, enjoy the saw!  [smile]

Yeah, it gets pretty confusing for us noobies. The last thing we want to do is ruin our expensive purchases! haha

I appreciate the additional input. I'm excited to embark on this new hobby!
