BuildCalc for Android

I don't own a smart phone [embarassed] but Tom showed me the features of the BuildCalc on his Ipad and I'll say I was very impressed.  It's apps like this that push me closer to getting with the times and buying a smart phone or Ipad.

With the BuildCalc app on my phone, it is just one less thing you carry. I do own a few Construction Masters, but they sit on the desk or stay in the truck. Gave a CM 5 away about a month ago, can't remember the last time I turned it on.

A smart phone or tablet is great to have on you. With the convergence of so many items it really lightens the load we carry. Just think with the continuing evolution of the quality of cameras built into phones, the video capability, caculator, email, contact manager and many other items too numerous to mention. It really makes you wonder how we functioned the way we did in the past.

How many times did you get home and check the answering machine and have to leave for another appointment, or, check the computer at home for your email?

Brice, you ought to head down to your local cell provider and check out the options they have. As many have stated before, it will change the way you do business.

Heck, you can even get your reviews and thoughts out the the FOG faster while you are at lunch or on a break [big grin]

Dean,

To switch from fractional to metric, you swipe across the the inch, feet, yard keys. It then shows those keys as  m, cm, mm. to switch back to imperial swipe again. If you want to make metric the default, you tap conv, prefs(replaces the store key), the first on the list is Imperial Metric. if you set the default to metric, swiping the m, cm, mm keys will call up the inch, feet, yard keys.

if you swipe across the length, width, height keys it calls up the trig functions, sin, cos, tan.

This is how it functions on the iPhone, I will verify it works the same way on a 'droid.

Thee is nothing out there that compares to the functions of BuildCalc. What it can do with stairs, irregular hips and railings is mind boggling. I have been using it since it first came to market.

I am a beta tester for BuildCalc, so any questions, let me know. I guess I'll have to log in more often now, can't view this area without logging in. Nothing against anyone here, just that I have little to contribute, compared to others knowledge of Festool I read here.

Brice,

Get a smart phone, the weight savings alone not carrying all the devices it replaces is well worth it. Just think about the fuel you will save in your truck from the decreased load, that alone makes it worth while.  [unsure]

I was trying the metric switch technique and it works very easy. I then entered 14mm and swiped the same way and was hoping it would automatically convert to inches. No such luck. Am I doing something wrong?

Gary

I just tried the conv key and hit inches and it coverted just fine.  What an awesome program!!!

Gary,

You do not have to hit the convert key, just hit the imperial key you want the number to be converted to.

Example;

3/4"- swipe, tap mm = 19.05,  48' 7-5/8", swipe- mm, 14824.08, cm 1482.407, m-14.824 ( yes I know it just moves the decimal point)

489mm- swipe, tap inch =19.25197" tap inch again= 19 1/4" (rounded), tap feet 1' 7-1/4"

It gets better the more you play with it.

Anything else, you know how to get a hold of me.

I was in Three Rivers last Wednesday and Thursday, should be back up that way in about 10-14 days. I'll let you know when.

For those of you that have downloaded this app on iOS, 2.1 is now avalible.

It supports AirPrint, if you hold down on the "I" icon and press the "+" key it will toggle to a white background, great for daylight viewing. It now uses the entire iPad screen.

thanks for the response, i may have to puchase this

more tablet related, but i've been playing with sketch book pro on my recently purchased tablet and it's pretty decent little sketch app also available on iso.  AndCAD is a CAD program for android in it's demo phase, takes some getting used to, not ready for the professional field yet, but you can see the possibilities are there and i've no doubt we'll be doing mobile drawing  on these devices relatively soon

For those of you that have BuildCalc on the iDevices, version 2.2.0 is now live in the App store.

Once you update, tap Conv-tap Prefs. If you get a blank screen you will need to delete the app and reload it. To do so go to Purchases in your App Store account, you should see BuildCalc, reinstall the app. You must update the app prior to deleting, otherwise you will just get the last version you updated to. If you have iOS 7 and auto updates turned on, you should go check the app.

I was told the Android update if a few weeks away.
