Buying a Used Tool - Original Sales Receipt Needed for Warranty Repair?

I'm looking to buy a used tool that still has some time left on the original warranty.  I've seen it said here that the warranty is transferrable.  I asked the seller to send me the serial number and in turn I called Festool to see if the item was warrantied and how much longer I had.  I was told that in order for me to receive service, I would need the original receipt despite the fact that the vendor registered a sale.  They could not tell when it was registered.

So before I pull the trigger on the purchase, can I get some clarification from a Festool representative to what exactly is necessary for the non-original owner to have in order to be covered under the three year factory warranty?

Thanks,

I'd like to being my response with a link to our warranty for you and others to review:

http://festoolusa.com/service/warranty/

With that in mind, the warranty does state that proof of purchase may be required. If you want to send me whatever information you have including the name, address or other info for the original owner and the serial number, I'll take a look and see what I find on it.

Shane, this is my listing in the classified he's referring to; I am not sure I can even find the receipt other than in Soft copy and it has all sorts of personal info and other products I bought..Sure you can vouch for me seeing we've met in person!

Not sure why the dealer I bought it from didn't do the registration, that might have helped.

Thanks Shane.

Skids, as much as I'd like to just say "it's cool, he's with me", I can't do that  [tongue]

I don't see a registration, but there are other ways I can look it up.

The serial number isn't visible in the classified listing, but with that I could look this up if one of you would send it to me privately.

Thanks,
Shane

You bet, sending now on DM. On it's way.

Thank you, sir. That OF 1010 was sold and shipped to the dealer on 2/28/2013. That would serve as a proxy in lieu of a proof of purchase. So, the warranty would be at least until February 2016. If I need to communicate with with someone via email or otherwise to make the transaction successful, let me know.

And there we have it!

Thanks Shane. If Joel needs that he can chime in.

Appreciate the validation.

I've also emailed the owner from the dealer from whom you purchased and asked that they get their tool registrations up-to-date, specifically this one. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much; I'm comfortable moving forward with this purchase.

As an aside, I'm new to Festool having bought some items during the reconditioned sale and I'm extremely impressed with the quality of the tools, the level of customer service ( a part was missing and was shipped out to me promptly), and the wealth of information on this forum.
