So, I buy off ebay, say brand new but a private seller, (maybe an unwanted present/gift) can I still register the tool ??

For warranty purposes I can't see why a dealer/seller has to be stated if the warranty form is completed and returned to Festool  and it hasn't already been registered.

They know what tools they make/sell and register surely. Its like buying a used car (second-hand) but under warranty, the dealers don't ask where you bought it from do they ?

well i think it depends, the warranty needs to be send in before 30 day limit after purchase.
for this you need the bill that proves where it was bought, when and possibly by who.

in europe it's usually the shop that deals with the warranty, you don't need to do anything.
but check with your local shop if they accept under warranty returns for things that weren't bought there.
the shop where i go has a sign "we don't service tools under warranty that weren't bought here" kind of lame, but i'm not sure it applies to festool. especially since it's a official festool "shop in shop" dealer.

I think may be getting the original sales receipt from a private seller would work.  I vaguely remember this topic being discussed before.

Sorry as this is not about the warranty from a private seller on ebay; however, I do know that when I bought tools from Woodcraft they said they handle the warranty registration with Festool.

Here in the US, doesn't matter how you get the tool o whether you have a receipt.  Each tool has a date code and it's warrantied for three years from that date.  They also may cut you a bit of slack for a couple of months past that to account for time in the store.

If the tool has already been registered, then simply e-mail or call Festool UK with the serial number & they will change the records.

If it hasn't been registered, then fill in the registration (I'd recommend doing it online then RM can't lose it!). When it asks where it was purchased & when, simply put the shop that sold it in the first place along with the date it was first purchased.

Even if it's been more than thirty days since purchase, I'm sure Festool would still let you register it. I'm sure the 30 days is more a suggestion than a rule.

You are correct in what you are saying.  However,  Having that receipt will matter if you are within the end of the warranty and the last known sale is to the dealer.  That receipt will helkp with any doubt or shelf life in the retail world.
