I have one C 12, the full set so 2 batteries (lithum), one charge, and 3 chucks.  I want another drill and have heard and wish to confirm that a C 18 will accept all other festool drill batteries.  Is this correct?  If so then I would just need the basic C 18 as I already have a charger and an extra battery.

Yes, it will work... but it will turn slower and have less power than it would have if coupled to an 18 volt battery.

I used a 12V battery from my drywall gun in my PDC when I had sent a broken battery in for warranty.

Thanks that helps if I lose power then best to go with a "plus" set and get the batteries and charger.
Another question will all of the chucks for my C 12 work with the C 18?

Yes.

NiCD and NiMH batteries on "Lithium" drill; yes
Lithium batteries on pre-Lithium drill; no, does not fit (on purpose; Lithium batteries need overcurrent protection)

lower voltage batteries on higher voltage drill; yes, but reduced power
higher voltage batteries on lower voltage drill; no, does not fit (on purpose; reason kinda obvious I think  [tongue])

I'm not so sure on the newer drills, but I think it used to be so that a 18V drill with 12V battery would be slower and weaker than a 12V drill with 12V battery.

It seems battery prices have come down a bit, but it used to be so that when buying them in a kit with a drill would make the drill very cheap if you compared to separate battery prices.

IIRC, the older catalogs used to mention lower voltage/current batteries used due to lighter weight. Of course they also didn't last as long per charge.
