I have just received the Festool C12 drill.  Question: what doesthe green slide do in front of the green torque wheel?  It appears to have two postions: 1 and 2.

Mark,

It changes the speed settings. Position 1 is 0 - 450 rpm and Position 2 is 0 -1500 rpm.

Thanks Bob.  Under what circumstances is Speed 1 and Speed 2 used?

Mark,

I use speed 2 for drilling, and speed 1 is for torque and precision.

hi Mark

I use speed 1 for more torque and speed 2 for speed that's generally how I think of it, for example, if I were to remove a screw I would certainly begin with speed setting 1 i.e. more torque.   peace dan

Does speed 1 (more torque) relate at all to the torque setting wheel behind the speed setting?

The torque setting dial is a clutch that stops the drill when a given torque is hit. And it happens before the "1/2" gearing selector, so torque 1.5 is different in setting 1 than setting 2. How's that for confusing?

But I think that's the way to think of it, if you drive a stick: the 1/2 selector is a transmission, the torque dial is a clutch.

Generally, if I'm drilling holes I set the torque dial all the way to the right and the selector to 2, if I'm driving screws I set the selector to 1 and the torque dial appropriate to the material and screw.
