looking for a basic cad set up to do drawings for woodworking projects in 2D/3D. i downloaded the google sketchup free trial and really liked it but found it a little on the steep side to buy as im not going to use it to its full capability's.......?
anyone know of a simple to use but affective software i can buy.
thanks.

The limited version of Sketchup is free for personal use. The free version is called "Make". After your trial expires you have to re-download and install. I found this confusing, and had to Google it to find this out.

For 2D you may want to look at Draftsight. Especially if you are already skilled in Autocad.

SketchUp and Fusion 360 are the best free options out there. Lot more support with SketchUp for woodworkers, but Fusion 360 has CAM software included with it in case you ever want to get into CNC milling.

Seems like Fusion 360 is only free if you are a student or educator. Isnt this true?

Nope. Hobbyist or business making under $100K/yr USD as well. Either way its just answering a question, not like they check. LINK
