Can't make 45 degree cut with MFT3

I want to make a bunch of 45 degree cuts with the MFT3 but I cannot seem to set up the fence such that the cuts can be made on the table.  I can's seem to push it onto the table far enough for the cutting edge of the rail guide to still be on the table. 

I hope this makes sense.  If not I can try and post some pictures of what I mean.
