This may be one of the most anticipated power tools of 2011, the new Carvex jigsaws. As I've done in the past, I'd like to open a thread to let members ask any questions they have about the Carvex.

Pricing was released a few days ago to our dealers. The Carvex will be priced at $350 in the US, the base kit is $200. I'll have the prices for all of the other accessories published in the next day or two.

Our newest website can probably answer most of your questions:

http://jigsaws.festoolusa.com

Lots of videos and information about these incredible new tools, coming June 1st! Cordless version coming in Fall 2011.

Just so everyone knows, it's the corded versions that will be available on June first, not the cordless models.

Nice site!
The music is rocking too!
I've always liked the music in festools promo vids!

the european ones have even better music IMO!!  But im a euro emo geek anyway. [huh]

Good jams, good tools, gooder people    [blink] [big grin]

this one being my fav but the one on the micro site is a close second!

Hey Shane,
Thanks for the early info, though I can tell its gonna hurt my wallet.

My question is will the optional bases (not the kit) be available June 1?

Thanks,
Jess

I had a chance to use and view the carvex at the Jlc show at the Festool booth. It is awesome  cuts nice, no more adjusting the pinchers to hold the blades better

The accessories especially the arch attachment for cutting radius etc is really a great deal especially for someone like me who builds cabinets with arches. It also has several base plates for different surfaces

So it will be a great addition to the Festool line up

Thanks for the question, Jesse. Yes, all of the bases and accessories will be available on June 1st, including the base kit.

Heres a question.....How do the Carvex's address the problem of the blade guides heating up and wearing the blades out prematurely?

I've done some reading and that close up pic gives a good view. But can someone who owns one comment on blade longevity?

It looks as if one of the guides supports from the rear maybe contacting 2 points at the rear of the blade. Certainly better then bosch's system that pinches the blades sides.
Always wondered why I was burning through blades really fast with the bosch! After reading about the blades heating up it all made since.

By the way the micro site vids are awesome!!! I have to have it!

That's the best micro-site yet, Shane. Just a heads-up that the package savings page is headlined "Rotex sander."

Thanks! And, oops! I've fixed that text.

Kreg, I believe the Carvex will be 18V, so no you aren't going to be use the Carvex batteries in the drill, but you can use the drill batteries in the jigsaw.

Brice nailed it. The Carvex will come with 18v. You can use your T15 batteries on the drill but not vice versa. Those who end up with the T18 will be able to exchange batteries between both.

Shane,

Is there going to be a parallel edge guide available for the Carvex or is the guide for the Trion also compatible? The swivel cord is awesome - being able to adjust it is a great feature.  Love the strobe too!

Scot, I've not seen a parallel edge guide and to my knowledge there are no plans to offer one. Also, as far as I know the one for the Trion will not work with it. Would the guide rail adapter meet your needs?

Hi Shane,

Thanks for the reply.  The guide rail adapter would work in lots of situations, but having a parallel guide would be nice for cutting thin strips uniform in thickness.  I could see using this for making bent wood laminations, for example.  It is not a deal breaker by any means.

You might want to bump up one year.

I noticed that the accessory systainer will not include the felt base.  Will there be an empty spot in the kit for it?  Or an empty spot in the jigsaw sys?

thanks
Dan

Shane I was impressed with the Trion jig saw and how the blade was snugged up by the set screws so that it would not wander ad make a perfect 90 degree cut. This was well demonstrated at the Henderson training facility by Steve when I was there last year.

It seems that the Carvex is now using an automatic guide to achieve the same--is it spring loaded and if so how resistant is to side loads.  (Bosch also uses a spring loaded arrangement).

I do hope that the Carvex tracks as well as the Trion.

Dan, thanks for the question. I had to go check and learned something myself in the process. The felt base actually is included with the Carvex along with two blades and one splinterguard. The base kit comes with 5 replacement felts (they are in a plastic clamshell in the back of the Systainer). Both the Carvex Systainer and the base kit Systainer have spaces for the felt base.
