Carvex Jigsaws - Post your questions here!

It seems that the Carvex is now using an automatic guide to achieve the same--is it spring loaded and if so how resistant is to side loads.  (Bosch also uses a spring loaded arrangement).

Vijay, you're right. The Carvex features blade guides that automatically adjust, no need to use a wrench as  you do with the Trion. The triple blade guidance prevents blade deflection for excellent perpendicular cuts.

Shane,

Does the Carvex have some kind of motor blower like other jigsaws, when you don't use the vacuum extraction?

Have you guys or Germany found a cutting position where the dust extraction is only minimal compared to other cutting positions where it's very good or excellent?

Yes, it does have a blower.

You're going to see a decrease in dust extraction when cutting really thick materials, the dust will fall out of the bottom of the kerf. The angle base cannot be used with dust extraction at all.

I have always used the D handle jigsaws, but I have been intrigued by the barrel jigsaws.  It looks like the Carvex D handle can be used as both since there is a switch on the body.  Is this correct?  Is it possible to realistically grip the D handle body and use the saw?

With the new barrel grip D-handle design, you could conceivably use it in a barrel grip fashion. The only caveat would be situations where the D-handle might get in the way. There are power switches on both sides.

Do you know if the cordless pricing will be available before June 1st?

Jeff, I suspect you're probably trying to decide between corded and cordless. Since we are still deciding on what will be included with the cordless model, etc. the pricing will not be announced until around mid-summer. So, I wouldn't expect to see pricing prior to June 1st.

Is there any advantage / disadvantage to the hard fiber base versus the stock plastic base?

I’m assuming the hard fiber base is similar to the router bases, and they’re pretty sweet and all purpose.
When and why would the hard fiber base be inappropriate, vs the plastic?

PS:  The little splinterguard storage slots there are funny & clever use of space.

Robert, the phenolic base is going to be scratch resistance and will not be as prone to picking up saw dust particles that could scratch your material. That's the advantage. At $20/piece, the base plates are relatively inexpensive.

Excellent, thanks Shane.

Shane did you mean to say the new D handled design you could use it in a barrel grip fashion?

Heres a question.....How do the Carvex's address the problem of the blade guides heating up and wearing the blades out prematurely?

I've done some reading and that close up pic gives a good view. But can someone who owns one comment on blade longevity?

By the way the micro site vids are awesome!!! I have to have it!

Has this question been skipped in all the excitement?

I had opted not to weigh in since the question seemed to be targeted at our friends in Europe who already have it and would offer an unbiased opinion. Here's my experience... I've only run the Carvex for a couple of hours and that was mostly at the JLC show. I saw that the carbide guides wore the paint of the back of the blade, which is the only point of contact. I didn't notice any tempering of the blade that would cause dulling.

I was sold either way but thanks Shane!

I was sold after seeing the strobe light vid.  [thumbs up]. Unreal!

The blade on my Bosch turns blue!

Shane, any idea if the Trion will be reduced in price with the release of the Carvex?

The price remains the same as listed in the 2011 catalog.

But Shane, there weren't any prices in the 2011 Catalog.  [poke]

I'm not Shane, but there are in the PDF version  :)
