CARVEX Pricing

...so I guess I screwed up the offerings for 2016, meeting the guys last year and giving my input.  Don't be too angry about your Festool sock changer and the wicker systainers.

It's my understanding that the corded D-handle Carvex will have a variable speed trigger. Is this correct? From what I've read so far, it's the only one of the fleet that offers this. The lack of a variable speed trigger is what has kept me from buying a Festool jigsaw in the past. I know they have variable speed - on a dial - but I'm partial to the trigger. Can anyone verify this? I'll be on Tom's pre-order list if this is true.

I should have been paying more attention at today's demo, but I think the variable speed on the triggered is for the d handle saws, not on the barell grip.

Bob,

Thanks for the quick reply. I was just reading another post that Shane had made regarding this issue. He verified that the D-handle has a variable speed trigger, while the barrel grip does not. Just like you said. You were paying attention.

Thanks,

TC

Ok, that's good and least memory is still intact!

Bob, you should be worried because your memory is the 2nd thing to go!  [eek]

Why does the barrel grip not have a variable speed trigger? ???

Scot

No barrel grip jig saw, that I know of, has a VS trigger. This is because a barrel grip is designed to be held in different ways.
A D handle is designed to be held one way. The trigger on a D handle can be locked so the saw can be held in a different way, but the locked trigger is no longer VS.

As stated, there's no place one the barrel grip for a "trigger". There's an on/off switch, but no trigger per se. So, the only speed adjustment is with the variable speed dial like you find on many of our tools, which in reality is plenty speed control in my opinion.

I'll respond in both of the concurrent threads that have sparked a lot of excitement over the Carvex, but you'll get the answers to (hopefully) all of your questions in the coming days as we launch our website with all of the juicy details on the new Carvex. Plenty of video, specs, features detail, accessory info, etc. Stay tuned.

Hi Shane,

Just for clarity , you are sort of wrong here. Yes there is no trigger on the barrel grip but there is the "A" setting on the speed selector. This is a sort of feed back variable speed. If you set it to the "A" position and turn it on . The machine goes slow then as you present it to the material to be cut and push forward the machine responds to the pressure and applies more power and speeds up. if you back off on the forward motion it compensates. If you get what I mean.

Regards John

I saw the barrel grip in action today!  Wow...what a tool!  I wad on the fence when it was announced, but I'm very impressed and will definitely be preordering!  One thing I did notice is that the dust extraction connect will NOT adapt to the angle base. The angle base is awesome however...it's a gear driven split flap that adjusts from 0-45 degrees equally between the two flaps!  The strobe led is fantastic as well as the "A" automatic speed selector!

The dust extraction doesn't work with the base for the rails/circle cutter either.

It seems like a very cool tool...

Thanks for the clarification on the speed dial Shane and Chris.  Having the dial would work perfectly and the automatic speed dial sounds interesting.  I noticed the amps is a little lower between the Trion and the Carvex.  I assume it is due to the efficiency of the brushless motor.  Any other major power differences between the two?

Ok, guys. Carvex pricing is out!!!

461466, PS 400, $350
461472, PSB 400, $350
497709, Carvex base accessort kit, $200

I just saw it now at the Festool roadshow and to say it's incredible is not to say enough. It's amazing!

Available June 1st. I'll have it on my website soon for pre-order.

Bob

I was thinking it would be much more...I was just about to buy a Trion, looks as if I will be waiting now.  Why would someone buy the Trion over the Carvex at a $40.00 diff??  Will the price on the Trion be going down?

Scot,

Correct about the efficiencies of the brushless motor on the Carvex. Whether it  fully makes up the difference or even enables it to surpass the Trion's power, I'm not sure, but at yesterday's demo, sure looked like it matched the cutting speed of the Trion.

You guys replying in the quotes are driving my nuts. [blink] [big grin]  I agree, I don't know what sucker would buy a Trion over the Carvex.
