Very nice. You were always going to need to use a router anyhow to make the rebeate.  [tongue]

Well not actually true  you can use a table saw to make a circle AND do the rebate  so you dont have to have a router.

but it is the easiest way using a router.

Yes, I just originally thought that I could do a perfect circle with the jigsaw and then do the rebate with a bearing router bit...

This way done the making of the whole lid including sanding & finishing took about ½ of the time to do the jig  [big grin]

I Noticed you did two holes in your jig to off set the router for doing the rebate.  Which is perfectly fine and is how I have done it but another way I have done it is using a larger cutter (wider) first and then use a smaller (narrower) cutter to go through to create the rebate no need to adjust the jig then!  Either way works just saying.

Looks nice by the way

Well done - it looks super. What wood have you used?

Nice looking motorhome (a campervan is a diminutive title for something about the size of a VW Camper).

In the end I used Padouk for the cover since I ruined the original pine board I had lying around with the jigsaw. The redness of it should tone down a bit after a while and sort of blend in better even though it's still totally different from the interior veneer.

I stand corrected about the semantics of the term campervan - I guess that's what you pay for living abroad all your life.

My parents motorhome in the picture is a Dethleffs Globe S T685  - still a rather small one but comfortable for two pensioners spending their winters in Spain with it [cool]

Hi Reiska

I only mentioned the campervan bit because I hate people referring to my Hymer as such. It like someone referring to your Rolls Royce as a runaround! (I do not have a RR).

Size has nothing to do with it. A camper van is basically a van derived moterhome, a motor home is pupose built as that.

The Dremel Trio is also a nice tool for making circles up to 13" (their spec) with the circle cutter they make for it.

It moves kind of like a Jigsaw, but the blade is straight like a router blade, so it doesn't have the wander issue.

You do need to make a small hole at the center of the circle to anchor the guide, though.

I thought about that too, but I didn't have suitable sized router bits to get the rebate done through the same hole as I did the cutting so it was more cost effective to make the second hole in the jig [wink]

I did use a 10mm and a 22mm router bit for the cutting and clearing the rebate since when I made the jig for the 10mm cutter I didn't realize that it would leave a lip in between the two circles. It was nice to have the micro adjuster on the router to dial into the same rebate depth with the 22mm cutter to clear the lip away and get it right without lots of sanding [embarassed]
