Carvex question

So I've been toying with the idea of getting a Carvex, but I'm not 100% sold on it though. I currently have 2 jigsaws, a DeWalt that's about 8 years old, can't remember the model, but it was their higher end one that they made back then and a Bosch JS470EB. The DeWalt cuts are rubbish and always have been, but it stays in the truck and I mainly use it for cutting holes in sub flooring and it works ok for that. The Bosch is the one I keep in my shop, and although the cut quality is immensely superior to the DeWalt, which isn't saying too much, the blade still wanders around some and doesn't always cut perpendicular. There is also the issue of having to constantly blow the dust off my line so I can see where I'm cutting, especially at lower speeds.

Over the past few months I've actually been using my jigsaw a lot more than I used to, and the Carvex looks like it has some nice features, especially the dust extraction and the LED's. Since I've never used the Carvex and don't know anyone that has one, those of you that have come from similar saws like mine, is the Carvex worth it? All my Festool purchases up to this point have been huge upgrades from the tools they replaced, and it's been pretty easy to justify the cost.

I'm by no means expecting table saw cut quality from the Carvex, but will it outperform the Bosch by enough to make it a worthwhile purchase? I'd love the dust extraction, but don't want to spend $350 if that's the only thing I'll gain over the Bosch. I probably wouldn't get the accessory kit for it since I can cut circles with my router and don't really have a need for the angle base at this time. And I would probably get the D handle version assuming that the trigger is how you control the variable speed, unlike the Bosch which has the speed dial on the back of the saw.

The Carvex was my first Festool and also the first saw I spent any money on personally. It will make just a bit any cut you'd want. For months I used it as my jigsaw, circular saw and miter saw. I did everything with it. It's really a special saw.

Is it worth the money? Yeah. But you'd be best served buying the accessory kit with it which I didn't do. That will utilize it to its full potential.

It really will do just about anything you could want and it's basically splinter free with the chip guard.

The only thing I wish was better on it was the dust extra ton but even that's MUCH better than using it without a dust extractor.

Thanks guys, very helpful! I believe I'll pick up a pack of Festool blades for the Bosch and see if that can hold me over 'till I get the Carvex. Based on your recommendations, I'll probably get the accessory pack as well.  [smile]

Accessory pack is a great addition to the Carvex.  I got both and went with the barrel grip which in my opinion is terrific.

It might be worth you trying to get a demo of both the D shape and barrel grip. You might prefer one over the other. I went for the cordless barrel which I can highly recommend and because its cordless I always use it outside on site and have never bothered connecting the dust extraction, just let Mother Nature deal whith the dust.

How's the battery life?
Fine, I run mine on both 14.4 and 18v batteries, this makes the cordless jigsaw very versatile. Plus with no cords or dust extraction a very nimble machine.
All my jigsaws from one manufacturer or another over the last eight years have been cordless. I wouldn't go back to cords I think being cordless suites a jigsaw.
