Making a movable bar and been looking at casters.

I want caster which will allow me to lock the bar in place but also level it so it wont rock about.

Now I have been looking about and I keep coming back to these Level Casters which are IDEAL!  For what I need!

Because the Bar can be moved on a daily, weekly, monthly bases I need something which is quick and simple and requires no tools

BUT BUT!

I cant find them in the UK!  Only USA!  We have nothing in the UK which comes close to what these can do.

I have been trying to think of other options and still I'm open to other options just not sure what yet!

The bar will be stored against a wall locked so it will just look like a Unit against the wall.  It will then be able to roll out and both units will lock together creating a L shape bar.

Thank you JMB

Here's a link to the manufacturer's website:

http://www.footmastercasters.com/

Looks to be distribution in North America only, but you can drop them an email.

The wheel on those aren't very big...

You might want to think about some sort of mechanism that would lower a set of casters, raising the bar up on the casters for movement, once in position you would lower the bar back down on the legs. The bar would normally rest on a set of adjustable legs (for leveling). similar to an old school typing table. It sits on legs normally, but step on a pedal and a caster comes out of the foot to let you move it.

Here's a listing on ebay with some good photos of one.

I thought of doing that BUT because the bar can be placed in different places constant adjustment of the legs would be needed which is to much hassle.

These wheels with ratchet adjustment would be very quick and would adopt to the floor every time.

You might try searching for Zambus casters in the UK.  I have used these on shop machines and really like them.

Those footmasters only appear to have about 10mm of leveling capability. Would that be enough for your application?

Yeah the floor aint that bad (well I hope it wont be its having a complete renovation) its just to take to tilt off.  Where most people might just use a beer matt under one table leg I rather have something which looks little more professional lol

I didnt know they existed until I had to think of a method to make this bar stable when in use.

I will definitely be buying LOADS of these for my workshop!    Im making my workshop a MOVEABLE work shop so even though its not a very big workshop being able to move machines if needed can give me far more useable space when needed making my workshop double in size in theory!

Yeah I recon so! £50 quid each is peanuts compared to what everything is costing so far lol

Oh I didnt get the Job for making the Moveable bar!  My first ever job I have been rejected  [crying]  lol

Told me I way over what they wanted to spend but appreciated I would do a good job [unsure].

I didnt think it was expensive so god knows what they was thinking it was going to cost do something like this.  They wanted me to do it for nothing I think. Well Bollocks to that.

They wanted two quotes a fancy all Oak quote and then a cheaper alternative.  I never gave them the alternative as I wasnt going to lower my work down to give a cheaper alternative.

Would of been nice to do the job be different plus they were not in any rush so it would of been a nice job to look forward to over next few months but I wasn't doing it for free.

True but every client I work for pays me no problem what I want and few times I have been paid more than I asked for.

Just this client litterly wants me to do it for free.  Saying we are charity funded bla bla, which got mentioned alot!!! Plus saying they will put my name on a board for people to see which will get me alot of work apparently.

Hoping I would go great ill do it for free cus likely to get more work....... Ummmm na!

Hope all your stuff arrives sound.

I was wondering what happened to you.

You sort of vanished for a while.

Dont do that again.

I was hoping Id see you at the D & M show.

Stuff got here, Ive been setting up shop, wife's been setting up house.
Im staying out of the house as much as possible.

Trying to find a adapted from the USA 110V plug to the UK 110 plug.

Also looking at storage options, maybe going to IKEA look at some shelving or using spur shelfs.

Once I get those sorted , I got some honny dos to get busy on and some small projects lined up too.

Hi JMB

Only just spotted this....

Take a look at Coldene Castors here in the UK. They are a big company but they take small orders and have excellent customer service. They have the type that you need. If you need to get the ground clearance low then take a look at my Castor Carriage video which shows my planer carriage design, ground clearance is 10 mm and (now I have my planer) it works a dream.

I have the Zambus castors Steve mentioned on both my assembly table and LT-18 bandsaw. Dead solid; you'd swear they were on the floor directly. Where the bandsaw is at, there's considerable difference on all 4 castors due to me placing it at an angle and that portion of the floor is just miserable.  Was very easy to level.  Same deal with the assembly table as I needed leveling feet and I do need to move it sometimes; easy with the castors rather than waiting on neighbors.

Only down side is that they take longer to lower onto the wheels than some of the foot pedal ones.  To me they are great for items you need to be able to move, but don't move that often.

Thank you but what I was looking for was casters which could be levelled.  The ones you are using are good for a flat floor but if you have a dip your machine would rock.

I didnt get the job any way  [sad]
