Cedar wall sconces

Hi all,

This is the second of two wall sconces which will get mounted to left side of the double garage doors. They are constructed from WRC and finished with Sikkens 1 23 (Mahogany) to match the house fascia. The design is not mine, but I have adapted the original to allow mounting on the wall, using two brackets and a mounting plate. The wiring is hidden in the centre of the top bracket, the bulb is one of those twirly fluros. I had the ivory glass panes custom cut at a hobby glass store. Where possible I used small loose Domino tenons for the joinery.

For the project I use 3 Festool tools, the Domino joiner, the 5" ETS 125 sander and the C12 drill. I'll post a few pics during construction throughout the month, particularily when using the Festools. At the bottom of this post I've added pics of the first one I made and finished last week.

Stoolman, sorry for the late reply I didn't notice your post until now. The finish is the Sikkens Cetol 1 23 system. There are a total of 3 coats, the first is more like a stain but does contain some of the resin and the last 2 topcoats are mostly the resin with UV and a smaller amount of the stain. This product is teriffic for any outdoor trim work. With small projects like this the Festool vac is used constantly to remove dust and shavings from the working area and the project, I also use the vac attached to the Jessem router table and it removes almost all of the shavings. I used the C12 drill to make the small round windows below each of the slanted roofs.

Still have the bottom trim, mounting bracket and sanding to do. The finishing takes time because to get it looking good you have to hand brush the whole thing with a small 1/2" fine brush but its worth the extra effort in my opinion. After the finish is dry I'll fit the glass panels.
