centrotec Installer Set Is Bloody Expensive !!!

The installers kit with imperial bits is on sale for 360.00 US at CPO Festool. I picked one up and think there is one more at that price - FYI.

Agreed.  I have a ton of the Green&Blue, but won't be jumping into the cordless drills.  My Makitas have been going strong for a decade, and I can use standard ¼" hex shank bits with them.

I used to think this, too.  Funny thing is I just sunk a bunch of deck screws into my attic subfloor with my TI-15, and my hands didn't tingle like they did in the past with my Bosch.

I must be missing something...

I can't think of a Festool drilling type machine, (at least sold in NA), that doesn't readily work with standard 1/4" hex shank bits.

Can you please elucidate?

Thanks,

Tom

EDIT:
I use my leftover cheapos a lot. I'm trying to render them all useless...

you can fit hex shanks into the main shaft but they dont go deep enough to be a good fit for drill bits or you can fit them into the chuck

Its a shame they dont do a hex shank chuck like to centrotec chuck

Festool make a magnetic bit holder that fits into a Centrotec chuck and allows ordinary hex bits to be held.  It is part number 498974.

Hi Peter

that is only a bit holder - its about 12mm deep, I need a hex shank holder which is about 25mm deep

drill bits wobble if they are only in a bit holder

Edit: But the main point is hex shanks do not lock in so if you drill a hole with a hex shank spade bit as you pull the drill out it will leave the bit in the hole

Yes, I understand your point.
