Change of Design for Extractor Hose Ends?

I've had my CT Mini for a couple of years now, and last week ordered a new hose for my homemade boom arm.

i've noticed that the tool end of the hose has been changed. Here's a shot of both together:

[attachthumb=1]

Obviously the old one is the top one!

That has the hose held inside a plastic ring which is inaccessible without dismantling it as described here. On this, the whole of the black section rotates freely.

The new one has a revised fixing system, whereby the plastic ring that holds the hose is now outside, and fixed in relation to the hose. The rubber section rotates freely.

Definitely an improvement - if the end does come off, it's really easy to put it back on. In fact, it's a doddle removing it, too!

Jonny,
Can you check to see if the hard plastic end, with the threads for the hose, will fit into a 36mm hose end?

Eiji,

You mean, can you use it as an adaptor for a 36mm hose, with say, the sanders?

I don't have a 36mm hose, so I can't check that, but I've just been down & done some measurements:

The threaded section you mentioned is 39mm in diameter;

The port on my TS55 (which the 36mm hose is designed to fit over) is around 40mm diameter.

So I think the answer is yes!

hope that helps.

Must be more than a couple. I've bought my CT22 secondhand five years ago, and it already had the 'new' hose end.

We should verify that this is in fact the new version. If so I will likely order a few to use as adapters.

Off topic but:  One tool that doesnt get mentioned to benefit from the use of the 36mm hose is the Domino. Ive found that with the 27mm hose there are bits of wood sometimes left in the mortise but not so when using the 36mm hose.

Are you sure? My CT22 is also 5 years old (maybe six), but the hose end is one of those accessories that hangs on the racks (together with the sawblades, clamps etc)  of the tool-/hardware- stores in Holland I visit regularly, and at least up to a few months ago they still had the "old-style" hose ends (as did the new CT's standing there)

I actually went to check right after I posted to make sure I didn't make a fool of myself.  ;D And yes, it looks exactly like the bottom one on Johnny's picture.

If you check out this Basis catalogue, which has a 'last changed' date of august 8th, 2004, you can see the same hose end on page 9 (302) and 14 (307). So these hose ends have been around since at least 2004.

Perhaps your dealers just had a large number of old ones in stock.

Another possibility is that Johnny's old one is actually a new one, and his new replacement is actually an old one. That would make things perfectly unclear, wouldn't it?

Weird indeed, I checked the dutch festool site, and the filename of the image of that part (it only shows the "newer" version) suggests that it's from the catalog of 2005. To be fair, I think I lied in the post above :-X, I didn't actually check the new vacs in detail, I probably just didn't notice it. The ones on the rack on the other hand are at eye-height, and I should have noticed them... but it could indeed be old stock, I bought one of the extra hose ends, by accident, I got my CT a few days after I got my CS70, and I told the guy at the store to throw in the attachment to hook it up to the ATF55 ::)
Anyway, I'll be back from holidays next wednessday, and if they do fit inside the 36mm hose end, it would be handy to have on the jobsite (I use the 36 mm non-AS hose I got for the kapex for my makita planer and the OF1400, but have to use the 27mm for the OF1010.
