Cheap TS55 Rival

The Woodstar is imported by NMA who also import Mafell into the UK. I had a chat with them earlier in the week and they were very helpful. I'm as I mentioned in another thread buidling an info site on plunge saws, with a preview of some content here:

The Woodstar with one 1.4m guide rail is £179.00  (inc VAT.)  They are also doing a package for £249.00 which is saw, 2 x 1400 rails, 2 x clamps, connecting bars. Their first batch was 900 saws with rails, etc and they have sold 450 of them in the first two weeks. They didn't try to tell me that it was anything other than cheap saw with a cheap blade but I can see a market for it. I told a mate about it who has held back from buying a lunge aw due to finances and he wasn't interested and said he would wait till he can afford Festool.

If you have a look at the Hilti saws on my link, the one that might make Festool choke on their cornflakes is the Hilti WSC 265KE It neally matches TS75 spec (65mm cut, 1600W) but weighs the same as a TS55. The rest of the WSC range from what I can see are't plunge saws but they all work on guide rails. Anyway the WSC 265 is only £298.80 (inc VAT) A 1.4m guide rail is £98.40 (inc) and 3.0m rail is £222.00

You have to register as a user on the Hilti website  to get pricing and they are the prices I have been quoted.

thanks for the info on this guys, am another UK based member looking for a new saw. did previously have eyes set on a TS but have so many other tools i need to buy for my setup have been tempted by this cheaper set up.

can see why they have sold half their stock already, had a big promo push on it lately. didn't even know about it until this week. bit put off by the size of the motor and trying to think of the limitations and where it won't be much good. the hilti muddies the water even more and is a serious contender.

which begs the question, if they all work on similar guides, what is the cheapest guide set up to get for any of these saws??
