Chess set

Here's a chess set I made from a class at Marc Adams School of Woodworking in 2013. It was taught by John Economaki (bridge city tools founder) and we used the Jointmaker Pro for all the pieces, a couple of planes and finished with paste wax. Fun project... I think I had over 200 hours in the set by the time it was completed.

Paste wax?!? I cannot imagine using paste wax with all the inside corners and small spaces.

Also, I remember John's Fog of War board having recessed spaces in between the starting rows. Did you deviate from that design aspect on your own, or is there another reason for the difference?

I have not done this, but read it somewhere.

You apply the wax liberally.

Place the parts in an oven at about 150 F for a few minutes which will liquify the wax.

Allow it to cool and wipe off the excess.

The claim was that the molten wax would more deeply penetrate the wood fibers. I’ve been meaning to try it, but the right project has not come up. I will test it on a scrap of wood tonight.
