Cleaning sheepskin pad [Success]

I never cleaned a sheepskin pad, but I do suggest you don't use any soap or detergent because those do not play well with finishing products.

The first things I'd try are ammonia solution and thinner. Both are very good for cleaning, by dissolving grease, and both leave no residue.

How you clean it is more dependent on what you have been using it with. If it's wax, for example, I would use a gentle solvent to remove the wax, then rinse it well and put it in the tumble dryer on low heat.

There is a tool for it, I use the side of a screwdriver. In 45 years of using a buffer I have yet to wash a pad with soap or cleaner of any kind.

If you're serious about pad cleaning ... this is the sort of stuff you're looking at:

Several US sellers (such as Chemical Guys) are your target. If you want to search, look for stuff in the "car detailing" space and you'll find something local to you.

I use a quarter.

Just an update on my successful experiment with a product known as "Serious Pad Cleaner."  Took out the built up wax and oil after a 15min. soak and light brushing.  Pads are as good as new.
