Does anyone (outside the USA) have experience using this?

Which blades work best, if using a PS300?

I plan to use in a scrolling type role while cutting 3/4 inch plywood.

Cheers

From my understanding, the old unit works with the Carvex. You need to use the plastic base to adapt the carvex on the CMS module (the base also used with the compas or with the rail).

Using the PS 300 in the cms was my excuse to buy the Carvex  ;)
Don't use t a lot, but it is useful for small stuff as I don't have a scroll saw (yet)
I use the very thin narrow blade for tight curves. It also overcomes the fact that I never liked the ps 300 much as I couldn't see the blade.

JMB,

I confirm. On the festool doc that you can find on : http://www.festool.co.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/Catalog/Kat_2005/portal_multimedia_download/gb/p2010_broschfamsaw_gb.pdf
You can see on page 21/22 that there is a link between the Carvex and the CMS module.
Also on page 25, in the description of the module (item 39), you see that the Carvex can be used with the CMS (and the footnote mention that you indeed need the plastic base).
So sorry for having made you wallet lighter....

Once you have it, can you give us some feedback. I can also be interested (I just received a CMS TS 55 set, an OF module and an OF 2200 Set. I will certainly need to complete the collection as I have already the Carvex....).

Cheers,

JN

I had heard that the carvex would work in the PS 300 module, but an adapter would need to be purchased.

Thanks for advice onthe blade selections, for some reason I had thought there was a need for a longer blade when in the module? [embarassed]

As is mentioned above, the adapter you need is the same as is used for the rail system and for the circle cutter. The Festool part number is 497303. This is included in the Carvex if you buy the PS 400 EBQ-Set, but can be bought seperatly and is quite cheap (11 Euros or £10).

The timing on this thread is interesting, because I've been deliberating on a design to use my jigsaw in the CMS for the past few days.  Making an insert plate and mounting the jigsaw upside-down is not difficult.  What I am skeptical of is stress on the end of the blade - when used in this way. This application is different than when we cut with the hand-held jigsaw from underneath.  With a hand-held, we bring the saw to the wood...with the saw mounted, we are pushing the wood onto the blade.
My idea was to construct an arm that would support a blade guide near the tip of the blade.  In fact, yesterday morning, I sent an email to Carter Tools tech support for some guidance.  Hopefully, they will get back to me on Tuesday. (Monday is a Veteran's Day, in the USA.)

Sounds like you're designing a scroll saw.  ;) Scroll saw blades can be very small in cross section because they are held in tension.
A jigsaw blade is very stiff because it is held by only one end and sometimes thrust into wood like a sword.

While the jigsaw blade will wiggle side to side until it starts cutting, and that is much more apparent when you hold the saw upside down and contemplate installing it in a fixture, the stress on the blade is no different whether the saw is on top of the wood or underneath, as long as you feed the stock appropriately.

With a long piece of wood you have a lot of leverage and it's easy to overfeed. You also have to get used to holding the stock down while feeding to to the saw.

JMB, do note that the CMS-PS plate is compatible with only the corded tools including the Carvex. Look up my write-up on the disaster I had with trying to use my old PSC400 battery model with it.

I'm now using a corded PS420 in mine quite successfully. You attach it with the guide rail base (a £9 accessory if you like me want one permanently attached to the CMS-plate).

Note also that the Carvex cannot cut at angles in the table (since you can't attach the angle plate to the table) whereas my theory is that with a Trion PS300 you could possibly even tilt the saw (don't own one so this is just theory).

Another minor detail is that while you can use a zero clearance insert in the table base you cannot change blades without removing the saw from the base and to change the insert you need to remove the guide rail adapter from the CMS-baseplate.

To the OP I'd say that you can do some scrolling-like stuff on the CMS-PS with either a Trion or a 420 Carvex (not the Carvex 400 one due to blade deflection) its not going to be a scroll saw replacement.

Reiska, JMB wrote that two years ago.

So, the new Carvex (New to the NAINA focks) will not allow you to place the jigsaw at 45 degrees inside the module?

Hey Reiska

Good to see you to.

Havent seen you post inna while.

I've been lurking around lately. Too bogged down with work I guess.

And no, you can't tilt the Carvex when in the CMS due to the adapter used being the solid piece of plastic that they use as the guiderail foot.

I got the PS 300 so Im not to worried about mounting it in a CMS unit. Which is on my shopping list.
