Anybody have any experience with the Colliflower Perpetual Zero-Clearance Fence? The idea looks intriguing but I must not be getting it, it seems to me that the two aluminum carriers would make it impossible to put in a new insert without taking off one or both of the carriers. Am I missing something?

I don’t have one of these but I’m glad you posted the link. This is very cool!

To answer your question I believe that if the aluminum pieces are secured to the move able sections of the back fence you can simply remove one side and slide in the new insert and then slide the other half back into the non removable section of the back fence and clamp it back down.

Thanks! That would work easily on a Kapex - only problem might be clearing extended fences.

Pieces of some few mm thick plywood, double sided tape to stick it to the original fences and a router with a flush cutter should be able to solve that.

How is this "system" better than attaching MDF to the sliding fence or just double stick taping something to the fence?  I thought "Perpetual" meant that you'd never have to replace the insert, but I get the feeling that's not what they meant.

The sacrificial piece can just be slid along a little more for a new cut rather than detaching and reattaching tape or what not. Not sure if it is better but in theory it should work more easily if wanting to have a new sacrificial  edge  every few cuts.

I had to use very thin material for my Kapex sacrificial fences so the clamps would clear. I also had to remove a strip along the backside of the sacrificial fences to clear a little ledge on the Kapex metal fences.

I don’t see these Colliflower fences working on my Kapex.

You can do the same with self-made sacrificial boards that stick to the kapex fence, just make them so they touch with the fence at the outermost positions at the beginning so you can use them up, slice by slice, till they're gone.

Using a flush cur router was ment to form the boards along the original fence (so the inner part is as heigh as the fences inner side) so you have the clearing to tilt the head on miter cuts.
