Connecting a 36mm hose to Dust Deputy?

Thanks to some recommendations here, I bought the tradesman/installer cleanup kit to use with my current shop vac. I also bought a Dust Deputy. (Thanks Karl!)

Unfortunately, the D36 hose doesn't connect to the Dust Deputy without help, unless I connect the wrong end (the tool end) to the DD. (The DD intake bottoms out and the large portion is too big.) I did some searching around on the Festool and Oneida Air sites, but I couldn't find an adapter that really fit. I had considered trimming some depth off of the DD connector, but I wasn't certain that it would work, and it couldn't be undone. I wound up cobbling together an adapter from Sears (which doesn't fit by itself) and a rubber sewer pipe connector. But the extra length makes the already top heavy DD tip over at the slightest excuse.

There has to be a better way to do this. (Yeah, I know… "Buy a Festool dust collector and Ultimate Dust Deputy." [wink] When the budget gets there.) Is there a better way to connect the D36 to the DD?

You could just remove the 50mm connector (CT end) and add another 36mm tool end to your hose.

How hard is it to swap out the end? Is it easy enough that I could swap it out for times when I'm not using the DD?

It's real easy.

There are 2 little tabs that hold the cap on. Depress those and you can slide the bulk of the end off. Inside, you will find a left-hand threaded ring that holds the end cap on the hose. Unscrew that threaded ring and you can take the end cap off.

Putting the new end on is the reverse process.

Buy the Festool Y adaptor which fits perfectly on the DD and obviously accepts all Festool hoses.

It seems as though that solution would add about as much length to the DD connector as my existing kludge if not more, leaving me with the same problem.

I've decided to go with replacing the large connector with a tool connector. If it turns out that that doesn't work so well, I'll probably just trim the DD.

The Festool Y is WAY to long. I use the Fein adapter with a bit of fiddling it works and it is very short.

I received the 36mm end connector today. It turns out that both the 36mm and 50mm connectors both use the same threaded piece and snap ring. So all I really had to do was unclip the 50mm connector and snap the 36mm connector into place. That leaves me with a very simple and relatively stable connection to the DD.

Even better, nothing was modified, and I can just toss the 50mm connector into the systainer to use the hose with a direct connection to the shop vac if I feel the need.

Thanks again for the help.

to connect the 50mm end to a DD just take a layer or two of red masking tape. That will keep it from bottoming out.

I just cut a couple of wide rubber bands out of a bicycle inner tube and stretched them over the DD inlet.
