Consolidated Q&A for Carvex 420 Jigsaws

Wow have not been over here for a while till i got the notice for the carvex.  Man you guys going to make me spend a lot of money.  Question and chance of a combo deal with the saw and accessories kit, similar to when the domino came out?  I did not see a link to the acc kit.

There is no package deal or savings for purchasing the Carvex + Accessory Kit together. The kit is already discounted versus purchasing those items separately.

Information on the accessory kit is on our website and included in one of the videos in my OP.

Thanks for the quick reply.  Does not change the decision anyway.  I guess the bosch will be on ebay soon.  :)  I'm assuming all issues resolved.

I was wondering if someone who has some experience with the Carvex could explain the differences between the d-handle and the barrel grip outside of personal comfort. I wanted to know if there are any benefits of having one over the other. I may have to just wait until they come out and hold each one in my hand in order to decide. I've only owned a d-handle jigsaw.

As I mentioned in another thread, the D-Handle does offer variable speed at the trigger on the handle. The barrel grip does not. Otherwise, it's personal preference.

As you have mentioned, one of the biggest factors in the decision of which model to purchase is personal preference. I have all 4 models sitting in my office behind me for comparison. My personal preference is sided toward the D-handle models, especially because on the new Carvex design, all 4 models still contain the left and right thumb switches on the barrel. Therefore, all 4 models can be used as a barrel grip.

As Shane pointed out, the D-handle contains an extra variable-speed trigger in the D-handle that affords you additional variable speed control besides just the speed control dial on the side of the motor. Here is some additional information about the existence of this feature:
  • All 4 models have an upper speed limit of 3800 strokes per minute (SPM). However, when the variable speed trigger is utilized, the D-handle jigsaw has a lower speed limit of 1000 spm, as opposed to the lower speed limit of the speed control dial of 1500 spm. In other words, when the thumb switches are used to turn the saw on, all saws have a lower speed limit of 1500 spm, but the D-handle has the capability of slowing to 1000 spm via the trigger switch.
  • The maximum speed of the trigger switch is still dictated by the speed control dial. The variable speed trigger switch simply permits speed control from 1000 spm up to whatever speed setting the speed control dial is set to.
  • All 4 models have an automatic speed mode "A" on the speed control dial. This reduces the motor speed when the saw is not cutting so you can line up the blade with your cut line easier, but then increase the motor speed to maximum speed when the saw detects that it is cutting the workpiece. This auto speed mode is not available when you use the variable speed trigger. It is available only when you use the thumb switches.

Can the carvex cut up flush to a surface without the need to use another tool like a flushcut saw or fein tool.  For in stance when cutting in a cabinet, can the carvex cut to the bulkhead all the way without leaving that inch or so remaining that the base will not allow you to cut to.  thank you

Frank, the Carvex cannot flush cut like you describe.

How is this Carvex different from the model that was supposed to be released in 2011 but postponed?

There were improvements to the blade guidance system, there's now an option to choose on/off/stroboscopic for the lights, it's now called the 420 instead of the 400. I think that's it.

Are blades specially made for the Carvex? If so where we can order some?

Our jigsaws will use any universal T-shank blade. However, there are blade made specifically for the Carvex that offer better results for perpendicular cuts. Those blades will become available on 9/1. Product numbers 499475-499478.

Is the cordless saw power equal to the corded version and is the battery interchangeable with the T-15 drill?

The corded and cordless models share the exact same brushless motor. The cordless model will accept batteries from the T15, as well as all other batteries since around 2005 with the exception of those for the CXS compact drill.

Cordless models are expected to be introduced a few months after the corded models.

How is the vibration as compared to the bosch? I have a bosch and it's been a work horse, however its getting a bit shakey. (or I am  [scared])

Does Festool have a blade that's similiar to the bosch T101A0 or T119B0?

Will the new jigsaw accept a collins coping foot?

Thanks!

It's been a while since I've used a Bosch jigsaw, so I can't really offer any specific feedback. Maybe some of our European members can share their opinions. Vibration can be affected by the blade, material, etc. so there's more than the jigsaw in the equation.

Our blade 486564 would be most similar to the T101A0 and our blade 486563 would be most similar to the T119B0 in my opinion. If you try our blades and they don't suit your needs, the Carvex will use all universal T-shank blades, including the Bosch blades you're listing.

The Carvex will not accept the current Collins copying foot and it's my understanding that he will not be producing one specifically for the Carvex at this time.

Dudes (& ettes)...I took the carvex for a spin yesterday at the ToolNut while the rep was there and Sal Levecchi did his fantastic CMS demo. I have to say I'm VERY impressed with this saw. We did a bunch of ridiculous curvy and wavy cuts in both 3/4" ply and almost 2" poplar. Perpendicular is all I have to say!

On that note, I also just ordered a Collins Coping foot for my trion as it still fits that!

I think people are going to be very pleased!
