Consolidated Q&A for CMS Router Table

It would be good to see how much of the CMS router is "router specific" and how much else can be repurposed for the TS55 module if it ever makes it over here. $1600 seems pretty steep but like any Festool system solution, how much is really the base system vs. the individual tool?

- Jigsaw
- RO150 ... maybe some kind of sanding contraption?

Mark, nothing has been modified on the CMS for the US/Canada. So, if the other modules are ever UL approved, you're good to go. There is a module for the belt sander, also NAINA.

I'm curious - if one should buy the CMS for the OF1400, and should the version for the OF2200 be blessed, sanctified and sprinkled with holy water by UL, what parts will need to be acquired to make the pre-existing setup work with the OF2200?  Inquiring minds want to know...

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe all you need is the centring ring and insert that goes with the OF2200. Different rings are used for the 2200, 1400 and 1010 routers, and the CMS in North America is being supplied with the rings for only the last two routers. I bought my CMS module in the UK and I have unneeded rings for the 2200. The only other 2200-specific part is the pin that screws onto the router base, but it is the same one as used with the 1400.

I didn't want to comment on this topic, but as long as Shane said this, I will. It's not just the centering ring. The power switch is not rated for an OF2200. You could damage the switch, and there may also be other hazards.

I also want to reiterate what I have previously stated. Never mount a router without the correct centering ring. The router can vibrate out of position, and if it moves enough to loosen the clamping dogs, the spinning router could fall out of the table.

I've had the CMS router table for some time -- drug it back from Europe.    I'd like to buy just the CMS frame for the MFT3, but not the rest.    Will that be available?

For those considering buying the CMS system:  It works quite well.    Its a bit hard to keep the table and extensions in alignment.  Be really careful to not drop the sliding table when you try to attach it (by getting the first screw in).    I dropped it the first time and the wheel broke -- it should be protected.    Amazingly, I sent Festool (in the US) the part number and was able to buy a new one (from Germany).    Lastly, the dust collection does clog.    I use a 1400 router.    I think dust collection with the 2200 router may work better, but I've not tried that (and it appears that its not approved yet for the US).    Lastly, I do get snipes at the end.    I don't know if thats me or the feather board.

It may also be because your fences are too far apart either side of the bit or that the fences themselves are not coplanar. But I would agree that the featherboards being too tight is the most likely culprit.

FYI, the Y-splitter for the CMS hose set will not fit in the CT MIDI or MINI if you were wanting to use that. The hose garage is in the way. I suppose it's possible that it could be "modified".

Dust extraction would suffer only using a connection to the router.

Willy, we have always offered components as spare parts for all of our products. I would think that those components would be made available as spare parts. As for a kit, not sure. That would be very speculative on my part at this point.

i would imagine that the cms 0f2200 will get approval eventually. probably needs a redesign of something.
there  should be an upgrade set for existing customers. the good thing about festool is that you can get every part you want. not like most other companies. i got my dealer to ring record power to see could he get me a new bar for the fence for my saw (i want to cut the normal one and remove the extension so the  saw is narrower  but still have the slider on the side, this 'shelf' was taking up a lot of space in the shop so i shortened it) ,anyway they wont (said they couldnt)sell me a replacement rail (i want it incase i change my mind down th eroad and cant get one) . they dont have them  to sell.
i could ring up festool and order a new part for any of my tools

Willy, we have always offered components as spare parts for all of our products. I would think that those components would be made available as spare parts. As for a kit, not sure. That would be very speculative on my part at this point.

Can I use the CMS Router Table with my older 3 1/2hp Bosch Router?  I'm not sure how a router actually connects to the router table but I might be interested if I can use a router that I already own.

I think I can offer some input on this question since Shane probably won't be able to offer much.  The CMS is setup to work Festool's routers as you know.  There is a possibility of attaching another brand router but you'll have to put some effort into making it happen and you'll need to do some legwork getting measurements to see if your router will fit.
