Conturo feeding problem

So when I first got my conturo it worked properly, hit the button once and the banding fed in,  hit it again and it fed out properly so i could start the piece,  now i have to physically puch the banding through far enough to get it started and its a dance that I would like not to have to do.

Is there some maintenance that I need ot perform?

I have to clean the dust off the infeed roller from time to time.  It only seems to slip on plastic laminate strips  as opposed to the .5mm  pvc which always feeds fine.  Also check the amount of slack on the height control  to be sure its not pinching the banding.
