I've been using the Gear Tie's for a bit now. I find that if you twist them they will eventually wear and break internally at the twist point. So I found that wrapping them around is better.

Ever tried velcro/ hook and loop cable ties? I've  used them for P. A. gear set ups and they work well. You can usually get them in almost any color you want.
