So... My wife surprised me with a Cooltainer for Father's day today!  I had no idea so it came as quite a shock.  Anyway... I don't think I ever would have bought it for myself, but I was a little surprised as to the foam inserts - they seem to be pretty decent.  I will probably bring my lunch to work in it tomorrow.  As a cooler - I think you can get a much better cooler for the price - but the fact is, you're really getting a systainer which normally costs $80 - which makes the cooler insert $15.  I'm luckly to have a wife that likes Festool tools!

Festool could have put it in the light grey systainer, but then all you'd have is a light grey cooltainer. Because they've put it in a limited edition black one, you can buy a normal sys4 (or use one you already have), swap the foam sections over and what do you have then? A light grey cooltainer. AND a limited edition black sys4, which will be worth a lot of money in the future.

I was thinking the same thing and then I tried to put myself in the shoes of a Swabian...

Maybe it was designed to keep the lunch time beers from freezing while at a really frigid job site.

I tested my cooltainer out today  - the outside gets pretty darn hot in the sun!  I'm not sure yet how much it affects the inside temp.

I think a cool ice blue color would have been "cool"  I'm not quite sure what's up with the black.  Right now it's more of a lunch box for me - but I'm sure I'll be putting beer in it soon.

This is what I am going to do. The limited edition black sys is boxed up for safekeeping until some future undetermined date.

It was in jest...  I have plenty of coolers, I don't need/want a Fessy one.

Let's keep the conversation "KOOL". Like them or not, its ok to have an opinion about the ABS box.  Insulting or intentionally pissing off others is not "Kool" and isn't what we are about here.  Please consider this a warning / advice to future posters in this thread.

I didn't necessarily need another cooler either but in the end couldn't resist buying.  I thought my Festool addiction was under control but I 'fell off the wagon' again.

So... Building my mother in law's Ipe deck this weekend, I knew I needed a good supply of cold beer - a perfect chance to test the cooltainer.  I must say, it holds ice for quite a long time - evening the sun.  The mountains were blue today around noon when I reloaded the cooltainer - which means the ice stayed for over 24 hours.  There were still chuncks of ice in the water from the previous day.  I was pleasantly surprised. 

I also like that its a small enough cooler to set on the passenger seat when cruising from job to job.  It managed to keep water cold even when it sat in the hot truck. So despite the black color, it seems to keep drinks cold.

And.... You would think My mother in law would have had some cold beers in the fridge...nope!  I had to buy and bring my own!

Last Friday I visited a contractor who has been a loyal client for 30+ years. In a few months my shop will be making a lot of cabinets and built-ins for the mansion under construction. Here in Southern California near the coast we have the morning marine layer, but it gets hot outside by noon.

I do not have a CoolTainer, yet. What I noticed on that job site were several coolers filled with ice. The owners of those chests had them covered with reflective thermal blankets. My contractor buddy told me those blankets made all the difference keeping the contents cold until the end of the workday.

Maybe that is a work-around for the dark CoolTainers?

So I too am an addict and I thought I could live without this cooltainer but I feel off the wagon hard and bought it.  I t worked amazing here in ohio it actually has a lot of room for your lunch and a days worth of water on the job

I think some of the controversy over the Cooltainer has its roots in how people use their systainers. If you use them in a shop then it would appear to have little value. A simple igloo playmate cooler is less expensive and maybe even a bit easier to carry. If you work on-site and load in and out every day and have enough tools that you use a sys roll or two, then it can replace a separate cooler that would be yet another thing to carry.

This product is a great idea. With that said, I would consider one but I'm concerned about the inner surface being just foam. How will it hold up? Could there be sanitary issues? I'd like to see it made like a typical cooler, with a plastic inside wall that I can wash out and the foam sealed between the inner and outer walls.

I just had to get it. I actually really like it because its much smaller then most coolers. Perfect for just bringing over a few brews to some friends house. It will serve well on road trips as well.
