Cross lap joint shelving advice

I like the idea of the 'supports' attached to the horizontal 'pole' (not sure of the correct English term for this) supporting the shelf weight.

If you put just the horizontal 'pole' to the wall and placed the shelf unit on it along with the mentioned top anchors, it would be structurally the same. But this looks plain better and "natural" to anyone who is not a structural engineer. And that is what counts.

.. gives me ideas for some decorative elements that appear structural for some similar shelving that is ahead of me.
 
Like the moulded foam corbels they sell at Lowes and Home Depot ,

Made from PVC, 24” H, 4” W, 18-1/2” D, carries 20 pounds maximum.

It looks strong.

I have actual wood in mind, as decoration to obfuscate the actual structural element. Similar to OP solution.
But yeah. People *do* pay for this stuff.
