So as the site is back up and running, I'm after some up-to-date feedback on the CSC50.

I heard that it needs a firmware update due to some electrical problems.

Any other positive/negative or general feedback?

I am hoping to pull the trigger this week, so just a final post of capture the most recent feedback.

Thanks

Nothing more since Last week’s post.

Where did you hear this? Google doesn’t seem to have indexed anything about it — that I can find, anyway.

Nearest thing I got is an problem with the “csc.sys” file on Microsoft Windows. And as nearness goes, that’s very far away.

I have read a post on the facebook group where a couple of people have mentioned it.

I think one of the posters is a regular on here.

From what I understand, you need to update the software to version 9 from the Festool App.

Got a link?

Maybe I am naive, but I'd think that Festool US would make sure that update is in the saws already.

Only if the update was ready before the saws reached that point on the production line.

Even Apple, famed for their supply chain, generally make you do a software update on a brand new phone. To release a new product, you have to build them months before you ship them to distributors and thence to dealers. And we still have no evidence here that v7 is even publicly available (see other thread).

In days past you shipped the product with the firmware and that was and development immediately stopped. On rare occasions an updated firmware was released to fix an esoteric issue you probably were not affected by. There were never any new features added like modern updates.

The reason for this was deploying the updates was near impossible, sometimes requiring proprietary or special equipment, possibly a completely new ROM chip had to be installed, a ROM size that could not accommodate a larger firmware, and the possibility of corruption or bricking was significantly higher than today. To avoid this the ROM had to be as close to perfect as possible at manufacture time.

We do not have these worries today and upside is bugs are fixed, new features are sometimes added and you start manufacturing before the firmware is ready. The down side is there is little fear of shipping an incomplete or buggy firmware as you can always push out an update.
