First, I do not want to be overdramatic in this post. I have the type of personality that, generally, likes his new tools to be new. Unless, I am clearly buying something older for a reason. Just me.

Second, I would like to thank the community here for all they have provided for me. I am not a prolific poster by a measure, or even an occasional poster. I generally feel that so many others have so much more knowledge.

Thanks to many here, I did decide to purchase the CSC SYS 50. I purchased it from Beaver in St. Louis. They are very close to be and I generally get my orders the next day.

My question is: Did I get a second hand unit? I ordered the saw with the cart and energy pack. The saw and the cart both are double taped. As if they were opened and then resealed. There was no plastic over the saw's display, which one normally expects with electronics. Additionally, there is a slight defect on the display. Also, in the packaging, there were pieces of pink foam board (two at either ends of the saw's box and one in the cart's box). Presumably, they are there for a reason. However, it just seemed weird. Has anyone else experienced this.

Nothing appears to be wrong with the unit, other than the blemish on the display. But, I have also not had a chance to put it through its paces. Maybe I am overthinking it.

Thank you for hearing me. Grace and peace. Michael

i would look long and hard in the mirror what i buy the tools for

then i'd exchange it due to screen damage

festool has a 30 day policy. i wouldn't even pretend to try and explain anything

It's quite possible the supplier opened the packages to check everything's complete, that happens over here a lot, but the pink foam to me is very suss, unless they've had instances of damage and threw that in for extra protection.

I guess I am wondering what is the experience of others who have purchased this machine?

Did it have the pink foam?

Did it have the clear plastic over the display?

If there is a defect in the display return the unit.  If you are really concerned with the whole pink foam situation - why don't you contact the selling dealer.  I would almost wager that the dealer added that foam due to previous issues with shipping that item.  Anyone here remember the efforts that Bob Marino went thru to protect items in shipment?

Peter,

Anytime someone mentions Bob Marino, I want to chime and say what a great dealer he was. The packaging was amazing. Never had a problem with one of his units, including a Kapex. Bought lots from him because of his service orientation. Only wish he was still doing it!

Hope he is doing well.

I can assure you my unit did not have pink foam in the packaging and certainly it would’ve been an odd choice for Festool to use cornings insulating foam for this application should they want to add extra protection.

I don’t explicitly remember if there was a plastic film over the display, but I feel like there wasn’t.

As for Returning the unit, that’s a personal choice, but for the price you paid for something new condition I would likely air on returning- Especially given that there is a blemish on the display at this point. Good luck Either way

UPDATE:
Thank you to everyone that helped me out. I used the saw on sight today to trim out some windows. It worked perfectly. Cut like butter. Very clean. Still a little concerned about the battery life. However, I have tested and the batteries do charge in about 30 mins. That's good.

To the point, I did as was suggested and contacted the dealer, Beaver Industrial Supply. They were experiencing damaged packages/products, so they go the extra mile to open these particular products and add the additional foam. They do not resell returned items. All returned Festool products are quarantined and returned to Festool. Good to know.

While there is a blemish on the display, it is minimal and not worth returning - for me.

While I have only used it on-site for one day. I do like the smooth operation.

Again, thank you all for your wisdom.

Blessings, Michael

The blemish in the display is a sloppy moluding mark from manufacture, mine has exactly the same mark, in exactly the same place, and so did the dealers demo model on the shop floor...

The foam , added by a conscientious dealer to minimise damage in transit

Michael,
Glad you used the new saw and like it.  Also glad everything worked out with Beaver.  I have purchased lots of Jet Tools and a SawStop PCS from them in addition to some a Festool kit.  I have always been super happy with the packaging, shipping and support a I have received.

Enjoy the saw!

I just received mine and also found blemish on digital display. I think it's common for this saw (don't know why). You can also check it in this Youtube video review that it also has the 'dot' blemish. (0:10 in)

I don't think I'll return mine for this reason.

But as many others have complained, my sliding table has an issue. It isn't flat. It's slanted few degrees from the saw blade.
I took 2 days adjusting and calibrating the saw, but slanting sliding table is not something I can fix.

EDIT: It turns out my sliding table is concaved in the middle, the table itself is straight. you can see reference pics here:https://www.festoolownersgroup.com/...tool-csc-sys-50-tablesaw/msg718361/#msg718361

Only once have I bought a Festool which didn't work exactly as it should have. I returned it immediately after trying it out. After all, that's what Festool's 30-day return policy is all about. Right?

Just return it for a new one that works and looks new. You're entitled to that.

Second this, had one tool show up with a small issue and didn’t return in the 30 days and wasn’t as happy fixing it later under warranty than if I’d swapped for a new tool.
