CSX Drill and 1/2" Shanks - Does 496905 Work?

I have a lot of 1/2" bits, in particular is a set of fostner bits that 1/4" to 1" wide and they all have 1/2" shanks. My second Festool purchase was the CXS Drill Set, but the max size that the 497216 (FastFix CXS) chuck allows is 5/16".

Does the normal FastFix Keyless Chuck 496 905 work? I'm not asking if the CXS is strong enough to use 1/2" shank bits, but IF the 496 905 will connect and work as expected on the CXS. :-)

Awesome and Thanks!

I'm looking to get a new drill. I have been using my old Ryobi drills and impact driver when my CXS would not handle the bit or job s.

Would you suggest my next Festool drill be the Ti hybrid impact/drill or the T15?

That depends on how you want to use it.

If you are driving big lag bolts, get the impact driver. If not, well... I prefer using a drill when I can. Although the TI 15 is both a drill and an impact driver, a dedicated Festool drill is a better drill/driver but has its limitations also.

I have a CXS, C 15, TI 15, T 18, and a Makita 18V hammer drill. I also have my Dad's OLD corded 1/2" Skil drill.

I don't do a lot of impact driving, except when my old Ryobi drill would not drive a 3" into a 2x4, or when I'm hanging a LCD mount on a stud and using lag bolts, even with a pilot hole. Those almost always require an upgrade from my ryobi drill to the ryobi impact driver.

However I suspect that a C15 or T15 would do this without an issue and that would be the better option. My Ryobi impact still works so that could still be available as a backup.

I don't see a difference between the C15 and T15 in regards to specs or price, is the difference the grip style?

The CXS can handle 3'' screws, heck i drove 5 - 6'' screws without pre drilling  through 2 lots of 4x2 timber into the head of a door made from Idigbo and it never complained once.  [big grin]

Not that i would do it regularly, that is why i have a DRC on my to get list.  [smile]

I have a CXS and the TI15 for right now and the C15 is on the want list.  I find the TI15 is pretty good impact driver. and a decent drill however the beeping is some times annoying

I've got the T15 drill driver and it does and awesome job boring with spade bits. I also have the TI15 and although it is a good drill, it is really cumbersome when you put the middle ring on to defeat the impact. The drill mode works great, I just prefer to use my T15.  The TI15 is an Awesome impact gun though! I can't justify getting the CSX though :(.  I really want to but.....
