CT 26 Unboxed

My CT 26 arrived on Friday and we were able to put it to use. It's certainly a nice upgrade over the CT 22. I particularly like the new bag and the way the cardboard flange attaches to the machine. The integrated hose caddy is also nice. The top completely separates from the bottom - no hinge - so it is really easy to empty the bag. I am not sure that the extra suction will be noticed in used - I tend to run our CT 22's at less than full speed anyway.

If the new lead abatement rules affect you, then the hepa feature will be a godsend.

All in all a very nice evolutionary improvement to a great product.

No pictures it did not happen.  Where are the pictures?

I am sucking up stuff I don't want to pick up. [big grin]

I usually have a full box in the trailer or truck, speaking of that, I need to order some more supply's.

Pete,

Is it literally a blow out? As in you hear a "bang" or a "pop" or is it more a case of you open the vac up and see the contents are no longer in the bag?

I don't think speed would be the issue, I was just checking.

No it's just a loss of suction - like you get when the bag's full - then when I open up the vac it's an unholy mess inside; the bag's clearly leaked (dust everywhere) and the loss of suction is due to the clogged filter as much as anything, I guess. I'll confess, as it usually happens at a busy time, I haven't gone over the bag looking for tears/lesions/poor seals etc.. but what else could it be? Open to suggestions, btw ;)

Pete

I think Peter Halle may be right. What is the consistency of the material you are sucking up?

Otherwise I remember once having this issue. What seemed to sort it out for me is this. One day when you get the time clean the whole thing out. I turned on my air compressor and sprayed the whole inside out. I removed the filters and spent about 30min spraying them clean of dust and then working my way to the motor. After that I haven't had an issue.

Yep, sounds like it - fine dust from sanding filler in my case. Good idea with the compressor - have to find a nice breezy day to blast everything clear though ;)

Cheers, Pete

Yes a windy day would be suggested. I did it on a calm day and let me tell you, the plants around me were not happy. Not to mention I looked like a dust man :D

If you blow out your filters, DO NOT use high pressure air.  It can damage the filters.  I use a cheap electric leaf blower.  Large volume - low pressure.  The cloud of dust can be quite impressive!

Ah yes. When I did it I was worried about the pressure from my compressor but I don't own a leaf blower and everything seemed ok afterward. Looks like I'll try to be finding another route to do it then. Thanks Peter.

Regarding how Hastings got his CT 26 before October 1st, he was one of our winners from IWF in Atlanta.  Just another reason to go to trade shows --- to win free Festool stuff.  [wink]  If anyone's in the Baltimore area, we will be giving away CT 26s at the Remodeling Show this week.

Thanks for the info Shane

I got my midi on sept 3rd. Im meaning to trade up to the 26 if I can find out who will have them on the first?

Rockler said they havent heard when they are getting them. Woodcraft thinks they will have them on the first but no-one knows.

Id rather trade up then return and buy so im looking for the details from the shops. Any idea when they will be getting the word?

Thanks

The new CTs have begun shipping to dealers just recently. However, no dealer should make them available for purchase until the 1st. If a dealer has already ordered inventory, I would certainly think that they will receive it before the 1st.  I was in the warehouse today and there were a lot of CTs heading down the conveyor.
