I have had a CT22 and CT33, they had an additional hose garages that could be purchased. I did that and found it very un-useful. You could only put a 27mm hose in there. I now have a CT36 and am wondering WHY Festool would incorporate a hose garage into the unit that can still only handle a 27mm hose. If it was made slightly higher it would fit. I take this onto sites and always want a 36mm hose there. I just got a Planex and CT36AC and that hose barely fits into the garage,(only because it is more flexible). You still have to force it down and then you cannot use the handle to carry it. Can someone explain the logic behind this design?

Well, the logic behind this design is simply that's it is optimised for the 27 mm hose. And none else.
I have the 36 mm non-as hose, and I can fit it in if I place it carefully and use every square inch available. I make sure I place the connector deep in a corner and then coil the hose in, keeping it tight against the wall of the hose garage.

I suspect that the Festool engineers had to balance the size of the hose garage against the size of the unit overall. Since the DE's all ship with 27mm hoses (well, except the CT36AC) they probably decided to make it only large enough for that hose, since the percentage of people who would BUY and upgrade to a 36mm hose is a very small percentage. Our group (members of the FOG) are NOT a good representation of the general population, who would be unlikely to spend over $100 on a hose.
As Alex said, I can fit my 36mm Planex hose in the hose garage of my CT36AC WITH the power cord and flex cover I added. Like him, I have to carefully guide it into place and make sure the first wrap is all the way to the outside edge to get it all in there, but it does fit.

The hose garage of the CT 22 can fit a 27mm x 5 meter hose or a 36mm 3.5m hose. I happen to have a CT 22 with hose garage, and the 36mm 3.5m hose definitely fits. I don't think I ever transported it that way in the hose garage of the 26, but I would be surprised if it didn't fit well.
