CT Mini with Kapex

Yes you can although you may find the larger 36mm diameter hose works better than the usual 27mm hose

I run mine with a Midi with no problems.  As noted above, the larger hose is likely a plus, but I haven't upgraded my hose yet.  While the dust collection isn't perfect, it's 100x better than what I had before.

Don't own a Kapex - - yet but have seen them used many times with the Mini and Midi and they work very well. One trick is to be sure the vac has spooled up to full speed before making the cut. Either a short delay after starting the saw or turn the vac on full time. As others said - a larger hose works much better. If you want to go cheap to start, the vac hoses sold at the big box stores will fit both the vac and the saw. Not anti static and the hose ends are no where near as flexible but they work for about $20. Only issue as they said is the larger hose used on the Mini and Midi will require it to come out vertically from inside the hose garage so a Systainer won't work on top. No right angle adapter available that I know of (like the standard 27mm hose that comes with the vac) for the larger hoses.

I found it works in a jam but prefer to put a larger vac on the kapex if at all possible. I would say it's about 20% under power with the standard hose so the area gets quite dusty over a day of cuts, it does stop the dust from showering the area though.

Dont the newer models of the Mini and Midi have the same suction as the larger vacs? So if the Kapex is hooked up with the 36mm hose to any of the newer DCs they would all work the same?

Yes, and yes.

Yes, current Mini and Midi CT have HEPA filters and the same suction as the CT26, CT36 and CT48. However, it is a bit awkward to use the 36mm hose with the smaller CT. Still, many people do so, especially when using their Kapex on site.

I would discourage using a non anti static hose with the Kapex. Kapex really charge the dust with static electricity, so non-AS hoses clog badly.

Just checked the UK site, the airflow is shown as a little lower for the mini and midi. My own experience tells me that the bigger vacs collect a bit more dust from the Kapex but the hose size is probably the larger factor in the airflow equation.

Mr. Jones,

You should actually talk to a Festool UK rep and not rely just on the website.

Shane has admitted here in the USA that the Festool USA website has not been updated to correctly show that the Mini and Midi now have the larger motor and blower.

I just used my mini on my kapex with about a 5' length of the 36mm hose and the results were excellent. The mini is the new version and worked perfectly with that length of hose suction wise and without the hose binding on anything as it was only touching the vac and the kapex port.  Its the only way I plan to ever use the kapex from now on.

For sure, the shorter the 36mmAS hose connecting a Kapex to a CT the better. When I bought my first Kapex I cut 2.5m off a 7m x 36mmAS hose, which left me a very useful hose for extraction from my plunge saws. As my fleet of Kapex expanded I bought a new 7m x 36mmAS which I cut into 3 equal lengths. Those are long enough to connect a Kapex to a CT.

I've probably missed this change of spec as my mini is about 5 years old. I talked to Festool about the Mini + Kapex when I bought it at launch, they did recommend a 36mm pipe. I should make up a shorter 36mm pipe to use for this purpose, hard to prioritise because I have a Planex hoover (SRM45) and CTL36 and they will collect up to about 95% of the dust. It's handy that the Mini fits under the UG though.
