CT-SYS

I'm considering a CT-SYS (in addition to my current CT26) for mobile vs shop work. One thing that intrigues me is throwing the sys-2 part over my shoulder for cleanup and for sanding work on ladders.  But the 3m hose seems a bit long in those situations.

Anyone have experience using it this way? And did you find the long hose getting in the way?  Secondly, anyone know of a shorter Festool hose, say 1.5 - 2 m?  Seems like it would be a nice CT-SYS accessory and would fit the top better too?    [unsure]

You could always cut your hose to any length you want and reuse the fitting off of the cut end.

Bosch also makes a small hose (19mm I think) that would be ideal for sanding.  It'd be lighter and more maneuverable and fit better in the garage.

Yea, I could cut it.    Trying to avoid that though.  Thanks for lead on the Bosch.  Yup it's 19mm  [smile]. But I'd have to figure fittings I think, right, to fit the vac and tools?

Still trying to find out if it's really a problem.  Some of the reviews show the hose dragging around while using strap.

Maybe I just need to try it for 30 days  [drooling] [drooling]

Maybe get a non-AS D36 hose for clean up while carrying. Less expensive, right fittings, better size for clean up, more flexible,  and it might even be a benefit in that configuration to have the hose stick out to the side rather than the 90 elbow.

. I'm confused. Is the 'vac' end of the hose on the CT- Sys special with regards to fitting down through the top section and into the vac itself..., or not... [blink]
In other words, like my Midi hose or not?  I've looked over the CT-Sys at my dealer but obviously forgotten the hose detail.... [embarassed]

Right, the CT-SYS has the 90 elbow like the Mini / Midi.

. For me, just me, mind you. I wouldn't want to mess with storing a bigger 36mm diameter hose within a Systainer stack if I only brought a CT-Sys Vac with me. I could store it in a much bigger Systainer like my Tradesman/Shop kit already has with the stainless steel tubes and brush head, but then I'm losing 'stack' space just for that hose and not a regular tool.
I could carry it by itself outside of the vac too I guess.
But, if I stick with the minimalist approach of the Sys Vac, my hose and cord are there for me , ready to go along with a couple of tools on board inside the top section.
For a touch-up or a punch list item, I like that. Bring the Vac stack of two Systainers and one more tool Systainer with your Sander plus some Abrasives or bits if it's a drill/driver instead of a sander.

Thanks for the ideas and perspectives.  I took the plunge today and bought the CT-SYS to "try out"; along with the compact cleaning set (497697).  Its really nice over the shoulder with just the sys-2 to clean up shop.  I mean really nice.  No R2D2 dragging behind me; great suction; low noise; lite.

I don't see the length of hose as a problem so far.  Time will tell.  I actually like the idea of loosing the 90 degree part of the hose if I go with an alternate hose.  Good idea Seth.  Not sure for my needs a 36mm hose is needed.  I do like the idea of a shorter hose for room in the hose garage though and will see how that goes.  The garage is tight out of the box with standard hose.

As with every festoon I've bought, my concerns seem to evaporate once I get them home.  I'll be putting it through its paces on some sanding and other functions instead of just clean up.  Already tried it with the HSK 80x130 hand sanding pad.  It worked well with the vent on the pad full open.  Encouraging.

Thanks, again.

Enjoy it. I really love mine for all sorts of tasks. If you end up keeping it past the 30 days, I highly recommend spending the 80 bucks on the lifelong bag. It doesn't take too much to fill that little sucker.

Cheers. Bryan.

As my trial of the CT-SYS progresses, I found, not surprisingly, that the RTS 400 is effectively unusable without reducing the suction (i.e., on the CT-SYS).  Normally on my CT 26 I reduce suction by 1/2 or so.

So, because I really like the portability of the CT-SYS but questioned keeping it if I can't use on the RTS, I decided to see if I could make a flow control adapter.  See below.

First I spent $6.98 at the big box store (don't laugh):

Then I cut it down to expose the wider section and ribbing (which really helps hold it on the dust port):

Then I punched 2, 1/4" holes in it with a pen kit brass tube, and inserted it in the 27mm hose:

And then put it over the RTS dust port:

The RTS went from bouncing all over to pretty much smooth as glass.

No, its not suction control but its really simple, easy to make and makes all my tools usable on the CT-SYS now.

It goes on easy, fits both the hose and tool tight and stays in place well so far.  (I did cut off the small diameter end just to make it smaller).

Maybe this helps others with a limitation of the CT-SYS.  I think its a real keeper now. Was a bit on the fence before.

No laughing here AT  ALL...  This is the exact type of thing I suspected is needed for taming certain sanders when using the Ct-SYS vac. The only thing I had thought about was being able to add a plastic/PVC ring of sorts over the series of holes that I figured I would put in my adapter[ if I ever made one] to act as a valve of sorts for a bit of adjustability. I like the ports on the hand sanding blocks, so that was what I was planning to copy if needed.
VERY COOL, and in the words of Top Gear, Reasonably priced.... [big grin] [big grin]

Nice try, just like the original Festool Adapter Bypass part #496112.
But probably NAINA.

Oh FINE- YET another thing we can't get..... [poke] [poke] [poke]

If someone needs that bypass adapter and it's NAINA (really?) - PM me, I'll get whatever (reasonable) quantity you need and ship them to you.

Kind regards,
Oliver

I don't really know if it's truly NAINA, but we can look into it-  Meanwhile, how about that cool Metabo KGS 72 Xact SYM miter saw shipped to me in a discrete brown box labeled Machine Parts... [poke] [poke]

I'll ship anything that can be legally shipped. No problem. Although, max. weight is 31.5 kg.

Apparently that adapter IS NAINA still.  However, I found an old FOG thread from a few years back on the CT-SYS as it had just come out in Europe. There was discussion about a Fein or Bosch rotating valve assembly available from either company as a hose end that allowed suction control like the hand sanding pads do, just a bigger version of them built-into the hose adapter. All because users were starting to dislike the lack of adjustable suction control like on their larger vacs... [doh]
