Hello,

I recently took the leap and started to switch over to Festool. I bought a TS 55 REQ and CT26 package from Amazon market place. When I received the CT26 yesterday, I took it out of the box and there was a crack in the hood (part #496237). I contacted the seller and they told me that this was common and that the dust extractor would suffer no long term effects. They offered to send me out a replacement hood. My questions are these, is this indeed common, is the hood hard to replace, or should I ask for a replacement unit. The dust extractor currently works.

Thank you for your opinions.

Joe

Have them send you the hood piece. I wouldn't worry about it. If you want pristine, then send it back but that won't affect anything.

That being said, the way that mother is packed, I am suprised it creased/cracked like that. They are packed pretty well.

welcome to the fog

If you are sure there is no other damage to the machine then get them to send you the new part, if you are not sure how to fit it, a quick call to festool service will give you the info needed to swap out the part.

Joe, welcome to the FOG!  Wish that your first post was a happier one.  Regarding your damage, it isn't common to have that happen in shipping.  Whether or not you get the part sent to you or send it back also should depend on whether or not you are comfortable changing the part yourself on a brand new tool.

Once you get this squared away you will love your CT-26.

Joe,

Welcome to the forum (and to Festool). I'm sorry to read about your first experience being a bad one.

I can only remember about a half a dozen reports of cracked hose garages on CTs. So, I don't consider that common at all. The main causes: things being stacked on top of the CT box in a warehouse and damage in transit because the delivery guy tossed it off the back of a truck carelessly.

I think you've already gotten good feedback from other forum members about the action to take. Replace it if you feel confident doing so, otherwise ask for a replacement unit.

[welcome]

Personally, I think you should sue somebody!

Just Kidding - but that is a bummer.

If it got hit hard enough to crack that panel ( and if there are no direct indications of how it got damaged ) I would want to have the CT26 replaced. If you can tell how it got damaged and can therefore have some assurance of what happened, then I'd just get the replacement hood piece.

In any case, it's your first purchase, it's not cheap, and the damage isn't your fault. Do what makes you most comfortable!
