I am assembling the boom kit on my CT36. The instruction booklet said you could mount the boom pointing to the front or to the rear of the vacuum. Intuitively, it seems that pointing the boom to the front would be the preferred orientation.  That way the controls are more accessible and every photo I've seen features the boom pointing to the front.

Am I on track? What do you suggest?

I'd suggest that if you point it toward the rear, employ the outriggers that are supplied. It's more normal to point it toward the CT and not even use the outriggers.

I have mine on a CT22 and at first I used the outriggers (boom facing forward), eventually removed them and the unit is just as stable.  I like it so much better now because it is easier to roll around the shop!

Yours is stable without the outriggers?  I just got one for the CT 26 and have it facing forward but I wouldn't call it stable.  This is especially because the boom has a tendency to rotate on its own to one side.  When it does the whole vac is right on the verge of going over.

Yes, very. I have rolled it around and moved the boom back and forth. Is your floor pretty level?

How complicated is the boom removal? i.e. is it something that could be routinely done after a day's work and reattached the following day?

Why I'm asking is that my storage space for a VAC in under stairs and the boom arm would need to be removed before storage every time.

Boom arm is pretty quick to remove.  It just has a screw through the post with thumb screws on either end.  The trick is to layout your hoses and power cords.  The hoses and cords on mine are in the plastic holders but I also used a couple velcro ties to tie the hose and power cord together as they come off the back of the boom arm (to where they connect to the vac).  The D50 hose from the vac is velcroed to the handle.  With that, you just have to unplug the cord, pull the arm's hose out of the D50 (which sits there waiting to be reconnected) and remove the screw.  Lift as a unit.  Won't say it is elegant... you need to tie any excess hose/cord off the front of the arm back to the arm before doing so or the flailing hose will whip around and find your unprotected beer.

Reiska  I break down my boom arm on my CT 26 on a daily basis, it easy to do and it makes it easier for me to store it in my garage with everything else in there.
I have left the thumb screw off on the setup to ease the on and off of the arm. I set mine up daily under the Ron Paulk UWB and have no issues at all.
Hope this helps some
